Well for the ones that say Fly glitch is cheating etc, the main glitch use was for skipping main quests on this speed-run... He simply didn't do 11 required main quests out of 14 total by using telekinesis on Xanthor's door @8:56.. Still cool speed run, far from the fun M&M series brings but still a nice accomplishment for those who mastered the game already. Played MM 6-7-8 countless times, but MM8 is really my favorite. (Too much futuristic stuff on previous games ending quests for my taste) Btw some people say that the game graphics etc looks bad even for the years they were made.. It is basicly because 3DO bought the franchise at 1996 from NWC [New World Computing] and simply asked Jon Van Caneghem [Creator of the games] to rush a new game every single year (MM6> 1998 / MM7> 1999 / MM8> 2000) so basicly no time to improve many of the stuffs that could have been improved.. Oh well, he still did an amazing job on these, definitely my all time favorite games..

demran I'm so glad you said that. As a huge fan of the games, I noticed a lot of things in 7 and especially 8 that needed some drastic improvements. MM7 and 8 seemed sloppy in comparison to MM6, from the plot to gameplay down to constant spelling and grammar errors. I thought they just got lazy. Now I know the real reason. Thanks!

JadeTokier Yw mate :) The later games was more sloppy indeed, but the fact that Jon van Caneghem did so drastic changes, like many new races on both MM7 and MM8 and entirely different maps/stories, instead of just using the same content of MM6 shows how brilliant he and his team was. Also some people like grid based earlier games of the series and so the new M&M game too, but for me free roaming on MM 6-7-8 was just amazing. Wish MM 10 was not grid based :(

Futuristic stuff has always been a key feature of the Might and Magic series. Keep in mind that the first five installments play on VARN, CRON or XEEN, artificial worlds that were created by the space travelling race of the Antients, and the core element is the struggle between the guardians Sheltem and Corak.

@@Nikioko Thank you, I wanted to answer that if they disliked science-fiction in Might and Magic then they actually did not understand the lore because right from the very first game back in 1986, Might and Magic has always been science-fantasy since every game takes place onto a planet which was colonized by an ancient futuristic civilization who vanished because of a galactic war against an alien specie the Kreegans and each of their colonies reverted to medieval culture after their futuristic technologies were destroyed during the war and the surviving and stranded colonists eventually forgot their origins and the other colonies and restarted their history from medieval culture therefore Might and Magic has actually always been a post-apocalyptic lore and you forgot to mention that Corax and Sheltem were ancient androids created by the ancient futuristic civilization just like Escaton as well. 😉

Ever thinked about the Fact that Skyrim sucks and that ist not the only elder srolls out there? You could "fly" in Daggerfall and Morrowind without Mods and those where totally better Games than MM8.

@@blazeit-ou6ik In my opinion, the only elder scrolls game that doesn't suck is Morrowind. Because it doesn't have level scaling. I can't remember if Daggerfall has that as well. Again, just like Might and Magic, Morrowind non-scaling enemies makes your roleplay progess visible. I love it when my character level matches their power. At level 70 my Morrowind character can manipulate the world around him just by existing, same goes for my level 70+ all monks team in MM7 where I they kill a titan with their bare hands.

in my opinion, MM8 has the best music of the 3 games (MM6-8). the music in the desert is just so good. I think its the same music in dragon gorge or what ever that dragon place is called

Might be a stupid question but how can you fly already at the start of the game? Is that some sort of exploit? I remember how learning that spell was a big thing in the previous installment.

It a glitch. Take a character that has air and water magic, click c to open the spell list, select magic eyes in the air spell list, switch to water magic and then click on the quick spell button. If you press S to activate the quick spell, you will see that instead of magic eye fly is activated.

also what version did you use? do you know about a way to fix the crash in escaton's palace when the music was on? It was said you need to go to the music folder and create a 1.mp3 there but it didn't fix it. I wouldn't want to run this game in one piece with no music.

mugg1991 Can't remember my exact keyboard config, but I put most keys within reach of my left hand (WASD). From memory there are some keys that can't be remapped, like ESC. I actuallywasn't affected by the Escaton's Palace music crash for some reason, though I know a lot of people have. However, as you can see in the video, there was no music playing in Escaton's palace during this run. Possibly something to do with compatibility mode settings? I'm on Windows 7 and have it turned off completely.

gammadragon thank you for your reply. I think I might use a tool to re-assign keys of my keyboard (so shift-right is now A so I can use it). Do you understand? Would you think this is a dirty trick? So, about the crash, a source said to place 1.mp3 and that didn't work. Now I read 16.mp3 could work and it did. :)

You can do this without the glitch (which I didn't know about till now). It takes longer but you can do it. I can't remember right now because I just bought the game again on GOG and haven't played it yet but I'll let you know.

Theiceman - It actually runs out at that point anyway, as Cauri isn't a Grandmaster in Air Magic. I guess it could be possible to spend some skillpoints on improving it though, to last the whole level.

Not yet that I know of, the game is pretty old, but I believe that it was being considered by the modding community that is remaking 6,7, and 8 by recoding the game from bottom up, however they are working on vanilla features atm, so you would have to play it as is Still a great game though! I recommend playing 6 first.

I was wondering about that. Good to see at least one comment about it. I have not played the game myself, so I was wondering: when he is making a save segment X there is no segment X+1 save name, but when he loads there is a segment X+1 save name. Does he reloads the same segment until he gets the best time? If so, how can it be called speedrun if you just cut the best times in. That is cheating.

Kind of unfortunate that a speed run of this game is just going invisible and collecting things using saves to avoid touching enemies. I was attempting speed runs of this a couple years ago and I could beat it in about 3 hours, but I would get ithilgore, a lich, the dark elf lady, and do most of the main story quests, still being able to more or less fight decently. Anyways, nice run. Pretty insane time.

I tried really hard to like this game, I think the dungeon designs had much more interesting traps and the idea of only having one character and hiring others is cool. But it just looks so much worse than 7. Like they got super lazy with the UI, the faces and character/monster models look AWFUL and they just stuck random shit on the ground (flowers and rocks and such) that don't add to the game they just make it look worse and it annoys me cause it looks like stuff you could pick up. The music also is much worse and some of it is just like 10 seconds of music looped. The story seemed interesting and I love 6 and 7 so I tried, but it's just lazy and sloppy and ugly. Good run though.

Jeremy R I am in complete agreement. I was sad too because I really liked the concept of the elemental planes and whatnot, but they just really ruined it. Not to mention, this game was FAR easier than the other two.

Well, the series died with Corak and Sheltem anyway. The first five parts are unreached. 6 was still ok though somewhat awkward, 7 felt like having no plan what to do and 8 finally rendered to be strange with its unusual character classes. Insteade of chosing the light or dark path yourself, the Cleric ist stuck to the light path while the sorcerer is a necromancer on the dark path. And it seems a bit odd to play minotaurs, dragons, vampires or trolls.

3do forced them to have one game every year starting with 6. So they were just exhausted and didn't have enough time. It is pretty obvious with this game. If they had at least one more year, the game could have been much better.

I loved 8 because of new races/classes. Also the story and the cities and dungeons were very nice. MM8 was also the easiest, and you may dislike it, but that's what got me into the series as a casual.
