Tom Morrison, the head of Terrytoons' storyboard department, is heard here as Mighty Mouse's speaking voice. In most of the singing "operetta" cartoons, Roy Halee (tenor) sang for Mighty Mouse and Ken Schoen (bass) was Oil Can Harry. Several different sopranos apparently sang for Pearl Pureheart. The chorus, recorded in 1955, was conducted by Mitch Miller, then chief of CBS's Columbia Records division.

The reason why this show was on 60 years ago, because "Howdy Doody" was on NBC when it moved from weekdays to Saturday mornings in 1956 for 4 more years during this show's second year on the air. This show did beat out "Howdy Doody" in the Saturday morning ratings. "Howdy Doody" lost all of its viewers to this one until NBC cancelled it in 1960 when it was replaced by the "Shari Lewis Show" while this show was in its 5th year. Shari Lewis ran for a few years until it ended when more cartoon shows started to come in on all three networks such as ABC and NBC, while CBS remains with this show until 1966 when it was replaced by "Mighty Mouse and the Mighty Heroes" until it lasted for just one season.

It was December 10, 1955, "Mighty Mouse Playhouse" debuted on CBS and also the very first Saturday morning cartoon show ever produced for Terrytoons, and the cartoon blocks are born. And after almost 60 years since it first aired, the Saturday morning cartoon blocks has finally come to an end. Thanks for the great memories of watching Saturday morning TV for almost 60 years on 3 big networks. Saturday mornings will never be the same again. RIP 😢

I was born just one week before "The Mighty Mouse Playhouse" debuted on CBS (channel 4 in my hometown of St. Louis), and this was one of the first Saturday morning TV shows that I ever watched on a regular basis all the way through September 2, 1967 (including the last season, when "The Mighty Mouse Playhouse" became "Mighty Mouse and the Mighty Heroes"), and I was still watching that series when it was in syndicated reruns from January 1973 to Summer 1987.

I believe "Mighty Mouse" came to TV a couple of months after Terrytoons Studios got purchased by CBS. Although some Terrytoons shorts had been on TV prior to that (in fact, I think CBS syndicated them, which may have led Terrytoons founder Paul Terry to eventually offer the network the chance to buy his company when he retired), "Mighty Mouse" was far and away the most popular Terrytoons character; but had not been on TV prior to late 1955.

That is true, for even if CBS broadcast "Mighty Mouse" in color prior to the Fall of 1965, the CBS "color" opening (used before all of the network's color shows) was first seen on-air in September of 1965.

This was originally run in black and white. They had the foresight to produce in color since the cartoons were in color as well. I believe it was produced before 1963, however. It has a mid 50s look to the new animation. The title are is also matches the new TV titles added to each cartoon.

I swear the original intro showed the transformation sequence from the episode "The Johnstown Flood" (where a regular mouse receives a help signal at some sort of observatory, drinks from a bottle which reads "atomic energy", spins into a tornado and finally changes into the muscle-flexing Mighty Mouse.
