Mighty mule MM462 Automatic Gate Opener - installation

In this video I replace an old non working Mighty mule mm402 gate opener with an updated Mighty Mule MM462 model. The installation was easy and straight forward.

Sugggestion for securing your gate… when installing the hinge pins in your post, the bottom one should point up, like yours is. The upper one should point down. Right now a person would just need to lift the light weight gate off the pins and drive in.

Watch that lock mechanism. Friend of mine has had to replace 3 of them in 5 years. They just quit working, no warning. It looks locked, but isn't. Also he's had to in the same amount of time replace one of the motors. Also you might consider replacing those muffler clamps with stainless ones to keep corrosion down. Otherwise, good job!

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on the lock mechanism and I do have an extra motor from the old gate opener. I will definitely replace those muffler clamps as they are already rusting. Hopefully I'll get a few years out of this system.

I got this same gate worked gate for first year past 2 months nothing but problems just had a new computer board sent to me and one gate arm replaced. now they claim my battery are bad cause my gate not to open

Where did you buy the solar panel and what power is it? Wish you can show how to install if you don't have one

Audray Jones It's from Mighty mule and it's 10 watts. But you'll save a lot of money if you just buy a 10 watt solar panel from eBay and install your self. There's only two wires from the solar panel + and - . And there's a spot on the control panel to connect them.

Can you use a regular lock instead of the mightymule pin lock & the gate still swing alright? The answer is probably no, but just wondering.

If you can find a lock with the same diameter as the hole and long enough to go through, then it will work.

Yes I ended up buying an extra battery at home depot for around $20.00 If you use your gate a lot, it will start to drain the battery.

Hello sir, are the gate units all plastic? It looks like the entire thing is made of plastic.

Maximus Thalos The gate opener motor housings are made of a tough plastic and where they connect on both ends. But not the screw drive. There's no way it can break under normal use. Hope this helps.

Why is there a gap between your fence and gate?

It is battery powered and if the battery is dead, then you can take the pin or lock off the motor.
