Cotton over-alls were a requirement I've had that you didn't mention. Just had a set of those blue workshop ones, they got me through. You did mention, but for your cousins over the ditch: Mounted fire extinguisher (reachable). Helmet (motorcycle). They checked boot for anything loose(can't do laps with your trolley jack). Checked battery was strapped. Checked exhaust volumes(no straight pipes, awww). Be prepared to drink atleast a full tank of gas, smoke a set of tyres, and chew half a clutch in a couple hours though, not cheap days. EDIT: Forgot they checked battery mount

As a CAMS scrutineer, We also check that the Battery Terminal is covered as well as the battery being secured and the wiring secured. The fire ext should have a metal strap around and securely mounted. It helps us massively if you get a sharpie and circle the Expiry date and put a big arrow to it as it can be hard to find. Helmet needs to be in good condition, we look in the lining as well as general condition inside and out and if the lining is falling apart and crumbling, its cactus. So keep it clean and don't leave it wet with sweat, it will kill the helmet. Some regs require Metal Valve caps with a proper seal, no glass headlights etc unless taped and nothing loose in the car including the glovebox / console - empty EVERYTHING out.

The trick is to get to the track, get chatting with a few people and you'll have track day friends before you know it! Every time I've gone, across three different tracks and with a half dozen different clubs or just an open day, I've found everyone super friendly, inclusive and fascinating. Unless it's a serious race, everyone is there to have fun, get out and drive and check out some cool cars and they're genuinely awesome people. Just get out there!

Sidenote: Some tracks don't allow track timers, Nordschleife doesn't. (On Public "Touristenfahrten" days at least.) The theory being that rookies will push themselves too hard chasing some number, and cause accidents. Sitting in "traffic" on the track also ruins your lap time and your mood, so why bother.

If you're going to any Motorsport Australia (CAMS) event: Fire extinguishers must be securely bolted in and within 3 years of manufacture (date stamped around base or neck). Battery must be secured down with a proper clamp and must have an insulated cover over the positive terminal. Drones are not permitted at any event unless you jump through 20 hoops in conjunction with the event organisers.

Just take extra oil (hopefully your engine consumes a little, not dumps a little), a helmet, good mood, common sense & car that is properly prepped. If you have all written beforehand then you really shouldn't need the fire extinguisher either. All the rest is "nice to have".

You guys are taking Subarus though, where's your head gaskets? Lol no hate, I have a WRX swapped/awd converted 97 Celica I threw together to make a poor man's GT-Four. My Turbo Suzuki G13B AWD powered 71 Opel GT is quite a bit faster though with my Cappuccino running the same Turbo G13B setup (RWD with custom widebody for better tires and to cover the damage, I got it DOA with rear quarter damage) keeping up. Both the WRX Celica and Suzuki Opel GT are built to be more Rallycross cars though along side the 1.8T Quattro front engine swapped Super Beetle (custom tube chassis with the body integrated into the cage that bolts into). The Cappuccino, my RWD Turbo 1GR V6 swapped Celica, and my Turbo 3l SHO V6 powered RX8 are more for track/road duty. I've got a couple barns of projects from the last 15 or so years from middle school/highschool until now along with donor cars/parts.

Track etiquette... Like, never, ever, ever pass on the inside on this corner? "We don't do it in races, this is a track day, we're here to have fun" at the riders meeting. It was a motorbike situation, a guy passed inside of the spoken corner, put me wide into the grass. I didn't go down, my goal was to put that guy down. His bike, new CBR1000rr, mine, CBR600f3 this was 2011 or so. I hung right on him for 3 or 4 laps... Kind of impressive with my old smaller bike, he sucked at riding, just had the straights way faster than I. I don't like that guy.

Best track day advice: Get out and do it! Wasted years modding my car making it "track ready". Best thing I ever did was buy a nugget corolla with mates and enter absolutely everything we could. Racing doesn't have to be expensive!

I like your thinking. I want to race but don't have that much money making it "track ready " what does that mean anyway.

Using a jerrycan in Bulgaria... "Is that even legal?" No! Law mandates, that you fill gas to your car or motorcycle using a fixed to the ground pump tank. If you're out of gas, you have to be towed to a gas station. Also fire extinguishers are mandatory for driving on the road (I guess that goes for all of Europe). First aid kit, high viz vest and spare light bulbs are some other things that are mandatory in Bulgaria.

I bought one of the Ryobi air pumps you showed - they are not really any good for cars, more... Basketballs. They do make a bigger model though - which is ACE and I have. Good info on stuff to take to track day - one thing I was surprised by - A water jug of some kind, if your car overheats, having water - and a way to put it in is uber handy even an old coolant bottle full of water. I walked up and down the pits one day as I'd lost a belt and overheated, got a new belt and not one of the people had a water jug! Ended up having to refill a 600ml water bottle many times - LAME!

Great video, as always gents! Hey, comment folks (or Marty/Moog)...anybody have a suggestion for a relatively inexpensive, but very adjustable phone mount one could use to use their phone as a camera?

you guys ever thought about buying, modding and tracking a Renault Sport Megane? I've got a Mk2 R26 and its a very capable car, the Mk3 RS is quite affordable and even more capable on track

Wow that's a lot of stuff! Can't I go with just me and a slurpee? Drinking an ice cold slurpee is my air conditioner, because real racers turn off their A/C for MAX POWA! I can't wait to see a video of Moog getting his revenge on the notorious MX-5! Hahah!

Are you telling me that there aren’t mechanics or the AA at track days for technical / repair work? I guess I’m posher than I thought. Also; I don’t know if track driving would be significantly harder on my car than my regular driving...*sweats nervously *

Its weird to see people talking about E85 fuel, in the UK the highest commercially available E level is E5 (soon to be E10) I wonder why there is such a big difference between UK and AUS in this regard?

Do yourselves a favour and add “spanner check suspension and brakes” to your pre-track day list. When was the last time you got under your car for a good look? So many who do their first track day say “never”. Check wheel bearings. Remove all loose items from the car. Really basic stuff but easily missed.

Anyone looking to really push themselves on track really needs to change their brake fluid before they go. if you want to maximize the breaking zones then you're gonna be putting huge amounts of temperature into your brakes. On my first track day i went with fluid that was in the car when i bought it and on my 3rd lap the brake pedal went to the floor at over 100mph (going into druids at oulto park if anyone knoew it. i SHIT myself) Get a cheap brake bleeding kit and put some high quality fluid in and change it after every full track day.

Always used a closed face helmet. Always... Ever seen what it looks like when a lug nut flies through your windshield and hits you in the face? .... Used a full faced helmet... Don't be stupid.

Ever since I started following you guys, for a few years at least, I thought that you were calling your friend “Mutton”. I was mortified today to realize you were saying “Martin” all along and I just suck at understanding accents. It was mildly mind-blowing.

Ok waiting for a video about what you need for when you're picking a car just so you can plug your merch and meet the sponsorship requirements with Castrol and wd40. I've been watching for years and I can see that you just don't care about this channel anymore, lazy, repetitive and cringeworthy content. Sorry guys, no hate, just my opinion

#1 track day food - bananas. When you're driving/riding you end up sweating heaps and sometimes water doesn't keep you in best form. Bananas are great sources of potassium and will help with cramps and fatigue, particularly in hotter weather.

For those of us American chaps. I had an e85 tuned frs and I brought 15 gallons and burned through all of it. Had to stop when I had 5 gallons left cause Buttonwillow doesn't have e85 in site. Just an FYI. If you want to stay out all day bring closer to 20 plus as full as you can keep your car
