German here: "Schmackes" does not techinally mean "smack it!", but rather (at least where I live) we say "mit Schmackes!" if somebody is too carefull wirh something i.e. with hammering a nail, and it means to do something more manfully, which I guess you could say translates to "smack it" :)

Hey Mighty Car Mods! I want to say thank you to both of you Marty and Moog. When you arrive in Germany you could easily go on your journy to Ford and make the RS but no! You set up a little carmeet in Cologne and make lots of people happy to meet you in person. One of the guys there was Rainer with his red Mazda Miata NA. He was a HUGE fan of you and was happy like a little child on christmas. A view days later he died in a motorcycle accident. I personally want to thank you for beeing here and make a wish come true of a man who not live anymore. Thank you so much and keep your good work going on. I look forward to welcome you to Germany again guys!

What impressed me the most was not Fords' stance of "Sure, come build your own car" but the down-to-earth attitude of the entire process. You'd think a lead designer would frown at people altering their design, but he totally accepted it an embraced it by seeing that everyone likes things differently. Plus Ford were so accomodating from the off, even when you blew a tyre they just got you another car to rag around in. I'm honestly amazed by the video, and fingers crossed you guys get to do something similar again!

Omg guys. I have been a long time mcm fan, right from the early days. This video you have just walked right up my street. I have always been a through and through ford fan, I have owned nothing but ford, I currently have two ford C-max 's. I've always been interested that they are built in germany, a majority of them being assembled in Saarlouis, and to see it happening and with you guys getting involved omg I don't know what to say. I'd have loved to have been there and been involved with a ford build at all, but the rs modifications too omg *the excitement takes over* Many many hanks for this.

Hi from the UK, I've just bought a 1 owner, 22,000 mls nitrous blue, Rs shell seats, forged wheels back in January to finally get on the RS band wagon, had it stage 1 mapped with a Sabre tuning live map to 395 bhp its phenomenal, bought as a keeper, if you've never been in one the power and the handling are simply sublime, you can thread it through a series of bends and your going 20-30 mph faster than your passenger thinks you are,,, let the haters hate.

Too many salty fucks scared of progression and success here. I still think the content is great, there's only so much home built stuff you can do and it's especially time consuming. They're a busy pair and you get it for free, be glad you get any MCM at all. It's not like they've sold out and every video is a corporate shill for a car that doesn't fit the demographic. At least I got insight in to a car I love and should put a smile in anyone's face who's into a modern drivers car. No one forces you to watch this, you don't own MCM and if you want lots of videos without huge waits while they order or pay for expensive services, they have to go beyond working on old stuff in their own garage.
@funitoo7 жыл бұрын
It's a good thing you are not a salty fuck :DD I think it's only natural some are a bit worried. I loved this vid and would not mind watching something like this every now and then. But if all their videos became like this a lot of people would loose interest very quickly. I don't mind the wait if it's worth waiting for.
@AngryTurds7 жыл бұрын
So, they're not allowed to buy a new car? Or be involved in assembly, seeing how it all happens? They don't really plug anything or compare it to other brands. Seems a lot of the others commenting on other posts are drawing long bows. To me anyway. :shrugs:
@funitoo7 жыл бұрын
I think we are talking about two different points. I was under the impression that the majority complaining are afraid that this is the direction they are moving in rather than upset that they did an advert for Ford Focus RS. I have seen it with other youtubers where they put out a very popular video and then move in that direction due to its success but then everyone is upset because it's not something they want to see every time and eventually that yt ends up going back to his original style.

lloydness s that is just how the launch control works. Slam the accelerator until it hits the launch rev limiter, then drop the clutch and the computer takes over. Rocker Panel is american apparently. Either owing it's origins to naval terms (a curved keel) or rock (being a protector from rocks).
@frontball27547 жыл бұрын
I'd buy that. But I've always understood the rocker panels to be the sheet metal underneath/behind the lower door sills. Kind of the spot where gravel hit's if you don't have front splash guards/mud flaps. And then side skirts are side skirts.
@Eric__J7 жыл бұрын
I wonder why the Germans call it that. Also, as Frontball mentions, the rocker panels are actually under the skirts on these cars.
@colind50927 жыл бұрын
I live in the US, I've always called them rocker panels. Maybe that's just because I'm more into the wheeling and offroading scene, where they serve that purpose. (Protecting the fragile body from rocks and other obstacles)

Urgh, This video has hyped me again for the New RS. Still not sure if I should get a used MK2 RS or save a bit more and go for the new RS :/
@smokin_moses7 жыл бұрын
Save up and get the new one man. I know a couple guys with the Mk2 RS (even one with a Mk1 :D) and it's a great car but... It's still FWD and it will never be as good as an AWD, no matter how much you modify it. One of the dudes upgraded from Mk2 to Mk3 and said it's a night and day difference. My budget is a little tighter so I have the Fiesta ST, but if I could buy the new RS, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
@renigade2347 жыл бұрын
Mhh, the main reason I am considering the MK2 is the 5 Cylinder. I curently drive the Mk2 ST and love the sound. Love the feel. Also don't like the Idea of "Sound Enhancements" via the Speakers.
@smokin_moses7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but the 5cyl (ESPECIALLY on the RS) isn't among the most reliable. 2 people already had to have completely new engines brought in (one after just 30 000 kilometres!) Both of them had the RS - I do think that Ford might have sacrificed some durability for power in the RS. If it comes to it, you can disable the "sound symposer" in the RS Mk3 quite easily if you find you hate it. But I'd say the Mk3 is a vastly superior car and it's well worth the tradeoff in the form of "fake sound". Besides, even if you turn off the symposer, it still sounds great. :)
@smokin_moses7 жыл бұрын
Also - I have the sound symposer too in the Fiesta ST and it's actually really good. I was super skeptical about it at first too, but Ford really nailed it. The car is about ME anyway, the fact that people outside don't really hear the same stuff that I do stopped bothering me a while ago - I'm having a blast anyway. :)

The Focus RS is a beautiful blend of US Muscle and Engineering, mixed with elegance of European Design. If I had the cabbage, I so would buy one. The AWD would be both functional here in Ohio, and also fun to drive.

HEY GUYS... Just to let you know, here in the U.S. those side skirts have always been known as "rocker panels". I assume it's because if you high-center your car over a large hump, it will rock back and forth on them. (Or at least appear to.) I've been calling them "rocker panels" all my life, for 50 years, because I didn't know there were other names for them. I had never heard the term "side skirts" until I saw someone like yourself on the KZbins refer to them by that name. If I remember right, that video was somebody from the U.K. Hey, we all learn new things every day, and that just makes Life a little bit better all the time! That's one of the coolest things about KZbin, being able to learn stuff like this from countries all over the world. And I've learned quite a lot about everyday life in Australia, just by watching your videos. That's one of the best things about living in today's Global Information Age... Welcome to the future! We kind of like it here... :D

What a cool opportunity! My first "new" car was a Focus ZX3 many years ago, and I loved that car. It looks like my old ZX3 is light years away from these new RS.

Congrats on your purchase... and certainly on the opportunity to visit the factory and participate in the build. I haven't been a fan of Ford for years, but the new Mustang and the Focus RS are improving my opinion.

I'm happy that you guys are going ton work on a "American" car brand. But ppl don't know that is more of a Euro car. Why? They been having it for years!!! And America just got it in 2016. The ST came to America in 2013. I'm really happy. I'm a Focus ST owner and hope one day I'll get my hands on a RS!!!
@MADMAN17477 жыл бұрын
In Australia we get nearly all the Euro goodies :) sometimes we don't if they don't convert them to RHD for us but we are sometimes lucky and get Euro cars unique to our shores such as the the E36 M3-R which i'm pretty sure was the most powerful road going M3 from the factory at the time!

The side skirts have always been called rocker panels. It was one of the first things that would rust in a lot of Italian cars. In 125 Fiats (1968 -) it was around the mating of the B pillar to the rocker panel. What a great video and very surprised that Ford Germany gave you the opportunity.
