Why did Moog install NOS? Why did he get a fibreglass bumper? Why hasn't Marty been helping? And why does Moog have a Honda at all when we all know he'd prefer to own a Nissan? Just finished this project on my car! This video was super helpful. I know their hood was aluminum but mine was steel and was harder to cut through so I think my experience was a little different. Some things I would add for anyone doing this on a steel hood/bonnet: 1. I was getting a lot of smoke, dust, and fumes (fumes from the self-etching primer that was under the hood) so invest in a good mask and have a fan running. 2. I went through a number of the metal cutting wheels so buy extras. Also, when the metal cutting wheels start to get small from being worn down, set them aside to use on the tight angles later. 3. Needle nose pliers were helpful. 4. I went through an entire grinding stone between both holes. 5. It was hard to keep the Dremel from skipping even though I was expecting it. I ended up with half a dozen nicks on my hood but I was repainting it anyway. 6. I found the plate that goes underneath to hold it together to be a pain in the ass (hard to explain) so I just used the nuts and washers that came with it. Cheers.

Hey guys, When drilling metal, you actually want the bit to spin much slower. You'll make better, cleaner cuts with a slower turning bit.
@georgeisabeast11110 жыл бұрын
depends on the size of the bit, the bigger the bit, the slower.
@MrDeaz10 жыл бұрын
Isn't the speed more about overheating than clean cuts? You would smooth edges anyway
@Lobstersarefabulouz10 жыл бұрын
Krede nah.. it is about the clean cut..
@woofer212110 жыл бұрын
you are right especially with hard steel if you spin the bit too fast you will just dull the bit and heat treat what you are drilling.
@mightycarmods10 жыл бұрын
Just in addition to this, because the whole section is being cut out, you don't need "clean" holes. It was simply used as a locator but yes slower is better - thats why we like Hondas - LOL

Every other comment is about the bonnet, rust, and corrosion. So to end that let's explain it plain and simple so that everyone understands. *The bonnet is made out of aluminium so it won't rust.* Any metal that got iron in it will rust if left exposed. Aluminium doesn't have any iron in it so it won't rust. Untreated aluminium has good corrosion resistance in most environments because it forms a thin oxide layer that prevents further oxidation. So there's no panic or real reason to paint the exposed aluminium.

Things usually have to get worse before they get better if you're not doing it all at once. I'm sure once it all comes together it will look sick. I made a stupid post in the other video, giving him shit about the mods, but then I rewatched the japan drifting movie thing, and I forgot that modifying your car is about what you want to do to it. It's your money and your car, and TBH I'm thankful as hell that moog isn't stancing his s2000. I really look forward to the finished product, and I appreciate all the amazing free content these guys give us.
@NathanSGuitar9410 жыл бұрын
Yeah stancing is the worst thing anyone can do to a car. I hate how some of the car community will hate on Moogs fully functional track-ready S2000 and then say how stanced/slammed Skylines and STIs are so awesome and great. It ruins the driveability of a great race car!

It won't rust. We stripped all the paint off the bonnet of our MK3 Golf then covered it in sea salt and water and left it outside and even then we couldn't get it to rust. But if you're cutting something thats not aluminium then yes, always paint the exposed metal (like when cutting parts in the engine bay etc) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWisp2dodrSNf80

I'm not one to comment on videos much but with all this hate, something has to be said. To some people, yes the front bar looks ricer and the bonnet pins might look a little plastic, but honestly these guys dont just do these mods to please the crowds. I have a sneaking suspicion that they also do these mods because it's what they want to do to their cars. They have their own personal preferences you know. I honestly just like the fact that I can watch these two mod their cars because it gives me ideas on what I can to do to my own car.

I had to remove the headlights and chop the pins down a bit to make everything work right but everything worked out in the end just took some extra time. To be fair, the updated youtube comments were designed to promote flamewars and trolling (No downvoting, but more comments = higher up) So this comment section is a just a hot pile of shit... It's really easy to insult peoples cars, so of course trolls on youtube do it, but on legit car forums and stuff like that, petty insults tend to be few and far between.
@mightycarmods10 жыл бұрын
I wish this wasn't true but sadly in the comments section it is. What I can say, is that after travelling to places all over the world and meeting tens of thousands of car enthusiasts in real life who actually own, drive and modify their cars, it's quite the opposite. People who actually work on cars and know what goes into it are always overwhelmingly supportive. Often those without cars or have never held a spanner are the ones that leave the most critical feedback because they have made better looking and faster cars in Forza. One day when they are old enough hopefully they'll experience the joy and excitement of working on something, no matter what it is or what the internet thinks about it. Anyone who hasn't worked it out yet that cars are a personal journey probably needs to go buy one then turn a spanner on it.
@lachlanjdm276810 жыл бұрын
Mighty Car Mods don't ever feel the need to change something on your car just because of a youtube comment guys. the internet seems to bring out the worst in people when it comes to cars, and its good to see that you are still sticking to what you think looks good on your s2k even though so many people here seem to want to change it. its not about what other people think, its about what makes you happy!

Unfortunately, from reading their blog post it sounds like that is not a near or long term plan. "Why don’t you turbo charge it? Marty and I don’t want to make the same videos over and over again. So when people say “turbo charge it”, while this may be a fun car to drive in the real world, we’ve just done a complete turbo conversion on the MX5. It was expensive and took a lot of time and neither of us feels excited about doing it again right away. If we wanted to get some internet cred, we’d throw on some expensive kit, expensive wheels, an expensive engine conversion, expensive interior then do an expensive turbo conversion. $25,000 later we’d probably get a few favourable comments, and then more comments from people saying we should have left it stock."

Little bit of a tip for cutting odd round-ish shapes. For the rounded off areas, find a drill bit that matches the radius of the edge of the shape as close as you can, if not smaller. Find the center and drill a pilot hole, then your "edge hole" and repeat for the your other round corners/edges. Finish off by cutting out the area between your holes and file to perfection! I did this for a custom PC window and it worked out fine. Just be careful and measure your drills and cuts as best you can. Love the show guys, hope your come back to Los Angeles when I get my first car! '06 WRX wagon hopefully ;)

Good to see that it looks like an authentic AeroCatch. My aerocatch's saved my CF hood from being destroyed into many pieces, and despite the hood taking off part of the top of my radiator end tank the aerocatch's kept the hood so tight it actually allowed me to putter to the police station and await a tow truck in my last crash. Meanwhile every counterfeit aerocatch I've ever seen has broken from just opening and closing them :-/. My aerocatch's still work after the crash...

These are great for cf hoods. One note of caution though, for people with bad winters (Canada for example) a little ice will lock the mechanism (from snow melting/freezing or simply rain/freezing). It does get tiresome after a while to have to heat it up to open it. Being in plastic, it's also more fragile in cold so when you operate it at -20deg or less, you need to be extra gentle not to put too much force in opening the latch.

Rice. Rice everywhere. Big nos sticker on the dash. This car makes me sick
@christianaugustin704710 жыл бұрын
Honestly I think all that car needed was rims, a supercharger kit, some decent brakes and suspension setup.

You most probably have never seen the episode when this S2k is genuinely equip with NOS.

The NOS sticker is required so people know it has NOS installed incase of a fire or crash so they know to make extra precautions

Now thiefs can get in your engine bay, congrats
@immortal_filmz10 жыл бұрын
No they can't, he didn't remove the factory latch system.
@mightycarmods10 жыл бұрын
1) They can't get into your engine bay because the factory system is still there 2) If you have a hard core track only car with carbon fibre bonnet it wouldn't be parked on the street anyway 3) If you remove factory system you'd buy the locking version of these catches (as explained in the description)

In all seriousness, an independant throttle body conversion would make an amazing future video. I'm not talking about installing a bolt-on kit because that would defeat the DIY purpose of the show, but maybe getting some old motorcycle throttle bodies and wiring them to a bought manifold, i've seen a few of these conversions done in a DIY fashion. Cheers!

To all the people smack talking Moog for his Honda and his bumper and the NOS just relax. This show is all about taking a car and making it your own. Let Moog do what he wants to do!

have an awesome day to you and everyone else in the comments i would have thought a slightly bigger piece of cardboard that caught the front end of the hood AND the side would have made positioning both sides symmetrically much easier. the positioning looks perfect how you did it anyway!!!other than that little tidbit,video was brilliant and keep up the amazing work,thanks for your time and content

I love the s2k !!!! I haven't even seen the hole build but It looks MAD !!!! And I don't get why people hate on Hondas and call it "rice" wen Hondas are cool well come to think of it anything from Japan is cool. But keep up the mad work on the Miata chopper moog !!! And nice music by the way.

Been watching you guys for what feels like forever. Awesome work and evolution of the show! Please do a "budget" supercharger build on the Honda, similar to the Miata build. It would be interesting to see if there are any OE chargers that can be adapted to fit.... Failing that it would just be awesome to hear that VTEC/charger whine 👍

Love your show guys. You guys have done a lot of engine swaps, turboing, etc. But could you ever do a video on a auto to manual swap for those that are not swapping the motor? That's something I'll have to tackle soon....
@TheDJGUNTER10 жыл бұрын
honestly i think people are hating on moog waaaayyyy to much and i like what hes done with the car because its different from Marty lol everyone complaining just wants Moog to do the same thing as Marty did and there a show they have to switch things up and btw i think Moogs front bumper looks sick and i have a feeling he will paint it!

Mighty Car Mods Some folks are giving you guys a really hard time in these comments, i like the way you guy are doing things i haven't before seen you do on MCM tho, e.g. the fibre glass front bumper and installing a NOS system :) also love those RPF1's they're popular rims but they are popular for very good reasons (Y)

@deadguy23710 жыл бұрын
ok guys i hope you read this comment. i read the blog about the s2000. here is one that you guys have never done before. i here you on the no turbo for a wile. but this is kinda cheap and i am shur people want to know how to do it. why not install some upgraded cams for the k20 motor. cams and cheap and you can do it and home. i think it would make a good video and it will help out with the NOS two. good luck guys.
@MTTT-bl2uo10 жыл бұрын
In Canada, those latches would turn into a rusty disaster pretty quickly unless you put some sort of sealant in there to prevent moisture and salt from getting under the sides of the latch and onto the now exposed metal edge. Unless the car is used only in summer and kept in a warm dry garage for the whole winter.
@кяуртіс5 жыл бұрын
THIS is the type of MCM I miss, not the new crap having thousand dollar tools and engine swaps etc.

I love your mods and tutorial videos guys! Moog actually inspire me and persuade me to get an s2000. but this looks horrible to me The s200 is such a clean car. I would rather spend my money buying more Unicorn power! coming from an s2000 owner. just saying!!
