It might've been my first one as well. I'm like 99.9% certain I had that line art box version...and I do believe I got it from Sears. Unfortunately, my mom got rid of my Jabba, the Ewok village, and most all my figures long ago. Only ones that got saved were Amanaman (my favourite regular sized figure), Lumat, Max Rebo, and the cartoon Logray.

I got this set for Christmas when I was around four years old. It's still one of my most favorite Christmas memories of all time. I can still remember the weird smell (which my brother and I were convinced was intentional), and I could swear the eyes had a parallax effect so they seemed to follow you when you moved past his face. Unfortunately, it was lost to the great Star Wars purge of '98 when my mom began throwing out all our old toys since we had outgrown them.

for my display i use the old 90s cardboard Jabba palace with the base from the modern era set and a vintage Jabba cause i still think it looks best. in general im not a huge fan of the vintage figures and prefer modern, but some of the ROTJ figures were really nice sculpts and made a huge leap past the figures for the first two films.

+Richard Dale Bootlegs are relatively common on eBay, but as I mention a lot of them aren't "genuine" bootlegs. In other words, they are made specifically to sell on eBay rather than being bootleg toys that might have been played with by kids at some point. They're still cool though.

Hi! I just discovered your channel as I was excited to get my new vintage collection Jabba throne. Looking forward to your review. I enjoy seeing all the videos you made here and I’m starting to work through watching them. I got my Kenner Vintage Jabba figure long after its original release. Strangely, I didn’t own one as a kid even though I had a ton of Star Wars figures. Being 12 years old when ROTJ came out, I didn’t collect everything from that film and kinda fell off of collecting Star Wars by the end of the line, like many. I got my Jabba playset in the 90s from a place called “Uncle Fun” in Chicago.

I like action features that actually work primarily, fair trade for any aesthetic compromises imo. It was neat seeing the productions elements involved.😉 Oh so that's why there is so much of it, they simply made too many, kind of a simple explanation in the end lol. Found a video about repairing Jabba, seems there's a plastic chemistry conflict between the two material types, amazing how many toys suffer from that, melting or killing each other with contact.🤔 kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZmrg3WuYryhqM0

This held up as the best 3.75" version of Jabba for 27 years, until the 2010 WalMart Jabba's Throne version was released. So many figures of the original ROTJ line held up long passed the POTF2 and POTJ lines, including the original Max Rebo Band, which I feel still hasn't been surpassed in quality by Hasbro to this day.

Seeing the suckers on Jabba's underside, the idea suddenly popped into my mind that the Hutts evolved their tails to ensnare prey before devouring them. The one thing we see Jabba eating in Return of the Jedi is a frog, so it can be assumed that Hutts are carnivores or at least omnivores. Seeing as the arms of Hutts are too short to attack with, they could have evolved articulate tails with a function similar to the sucker covered tentacles of cephalopods. I'm not sure if this is brilliant or horrifying.

I was always curious to know why Kenner never colored the figure to match his onscreen counterpart?
@MightyJabbasCollection
@MightyJabbasCollection 8 ай бұрын
Lucasfilm had a coloring guide for their characters that told which Pantone colors to use, so I think Kenner was mostly just following that. As for why they decided on that particular color, I think they just decided that a light orange was the closest approximation to his main orangey color, but it is interesting that they didn’t even attempt to make him green at all.

I was around 7 at the time the Power of the Force 2 toys representing the A New Hope Special Edition came out and I remember seeing the Jabba from that and similarly taking an instant shine to the character for whatever reason. By complete coincidence around the same time we were shopping for furniture and I encountered one of these original Jabba the Hutt figures, serving as part of a collection of toys intended to keep children amused while their parents bought furniture. At that time I assumed it was a recolor of the new one and didn't realize it was its predecessor from the 80s. The toy had seen better days and had no arms, but the tail-wagging feature still worked. The store has changed hands since then, so I have no idea where armless Jabba resides today, but I'm sure he kept plenty of other kids entertained over his years at that store.

Never understood why Hasbro didn't try the whole eyes cast from a seperate plastic on any of their newer Jabba figures. Instead the eyes are always part of the rest of the body, which makes him look odd & somewhat off despite the sculpt having more detail.

Awesome. I was 10 years old when ROTJ came out. Loved Jabba the Hutt. My favourite character. I enjoyed the first half of the movie more than the second half. I wanted this playset, but my mom took one good look at the shoddy plastic used to make it and that it was made in China (or Taiwan???) and said no, you can't have it. Last time I saw it for sale brand new was at a clearance outlet years later. I think it was going for $10 at the time. When it was brand new it was $20. They used to sell the whole line of ROTJ at a place called "Consumers Distributing". It was a catalog store. Every year you'd get a catalog in the mail. Then you could go to the store, fill out a "pick-slip"and one of the retail helpers would run to the back into the warehouse and pull it off of the shelf and bring it out to you. That's all the store was. Just a front counter.
