If you think about it, the original droid factory is probably the first “expanded universe“ product. It was never seen on camera. The 2nd “expanded universe” product was, of course, the imperial trip transport, which I loved more than anything when I was 14 years old.

That’s a great way of looking at it. I for one, I’m happy that Kenner had a creative vision and utilized it to great effect.

I have to say I think your coolest play set is Cloud City! Came with 4 figs and we didn’t have any other things to support other than the Cloud Car. Really cool with all your figs around it and that carbon chamber too. Love all the details on the backing too!

Kenner definitely made something for everyone back in the day. Mini-rigs were created specifically to cater to kids whose parents wouldn't pony up and buy the big ticket items. Had to extend the line however possible.

I got to enjoy one extra ESB "playset" as a kid. My main Star Wars friend and I both had the Millennium Falcon but, because his was more beat up and missing pieces (he was a year younger) we would take his Falcon and jam it between the trunks of a low-split birch tree in his front yard. It actually made for a fairly serviceable Cloud City as he had also taken out all the cardboard paneling on the inside so there was more (albeit hard to access) space. I have great memories of various scenarios we came up with where Luke actually saved everyone, or Han, Chewie and Leia manage to fight their way out of the carbon freeze chamber. Great video! Thank you for the big trip down nostalgia lane!

Thanks for doing this video. "I've been looking forward to this." :) This video came at the right time. Ironically, I've been thinking a lot about the Droid Factory/Jabba's Torture Dungeon and the Jabba playset here lately. I at least want the bases (all 3) for now, I think they would be perfect for figure display standing up on their backside and serve as a backdrop. I have everything for Jabba but the dais and the armrest. On the Hoth Turret playset, the Imp. probe is absolutely a figure. I think if they sold it by itself it would definitely sell well as a figure. :) That Land of the Jawas sandcrawler, all those backdrops are in absolutely great condition. I can't get over how nice those look. :) Thanks for the tour Thanks for the video :)

The probe droid would have sold separately. No question. It's definitely a figure. I agree. Best of luck collecting what you need. Really glad that you enjoyed the tour. The imperial attack base should perhaps be called 'the Hoth rebel bastion'. Note: Bastions are a standard motif among playsets for boys ( ex: Playmobil 70413, 4014, or 4217 ) - a lower price-point step to a full-fledged fort or castle. ...I remember having it as a tween ( still do ), and loved it! Great design, indeed.

Among vehicles, the Millennium Falcon and followed by the Imperial Troop Transport. Finally got the last of the playsets a few weeks ago. It was the '84 Jabba Dungeon - finally found one for sale cheap without the figures (I already had the figures). I had the '83 one since I was a kid - that I bought with my own money!. OK, technically I bought the '84 one with my own money too, but that's adult money. It's been a ride this past year filling in the gaps: 3 Ewok villages, 2 more (partial) Death Stars (already had 3- but only one complete of the lot), Cloud City, Cantina Adventure, another Dagobah and the rest of them I had since childhood or at least very early adulthood. Still a few more gaps to flesh out the run, but at least the playset side is complete! So is the Rebel Transport a vehicle, a playset or a carry case? Or is it all of those things at once? 😜
@GQJedi
@GQJedi 11 ай бұрын
Cool to rebuild or start a collection. Stoked for you! I would consider the Transport a ship and a carrying case. But throwing it into a playset is like throwing the Falcon in the playset arena. The beauty is there are no rules. I just go by Kenner's classification when making certain "lists".

Thank you! I tend to only review items that I have in my collection. Simply posting photos that I got online, I find to be cheating. It’s just not my style. I prefer to show in hand, what I’m speaking about. There are many boxes that I do not have. Ironically I do have both speeder boxes though. I love the Kenner box art! There’s a certain charm to them. If I had a huge collection of boxes, I might venture down that review road. But a video on the mini-rigs is something that I’ve had on my list for a long time. I have all the rigs, I just need to make the video.

that land of the Jawas cardboard is so clean. i curse Sears for raising the clothes and tool prices. we didnt get to shop their toy aisles for those reasons! cantina resembles 2 year college house parties. ill let whoever read in to that however they like. Droid Factory is such a mystery for me. missed out somehow. i wish hasbro would just release a buch of thin plastic walls for 3 3/4" star wars. theyd get my dollars. the death star playset seems crowded but each level or room gets some great details! that probe bot and turret playset is a bit tight but i love it! so much depth on the card art back drop for echo base. its so odd they went cardboard again for empire but not on the two big hoth playsets. imperial attack base ice sculpts! so simple. so cool!!! i love awkward cardboard walker. a charming little chipboard doggie indeed. army of yodas on dagobah, you have. A-shirt Luke would be a great "retro" line figure. come on Hasbro! wake up! vader's star destroyer...ehhh. neat features but no room for hands and figures. that cloud city dropback...oooòh. ohhhhĥ. i always wondered where CAP-2 would fit. nice choice. Jabba needed a cardboard backdrop! we had the tan dungeon. kinda dull. ewoks playset got drug everywhere outside that we could carry it. thank you for the tour and allowing my lengthy comment. i am not expecting a response on this lengthy thing. thank you again.
