Have playing around and really exited about it. I just wonder why, the areas from rooms not getting streamed. I can see its the same for you.
@AussieBIMGuru
@AussieBIMGuru 3 жыл бұрын
It's actually stored in a nested list for each room. There should be a sublist for each room object called parameters, and one of those will be the area parameter with its associated parameter values (e.g. type, unit).

Just use a filter on the stream so you can select what to import

Great video!, i am starting my BIM and prefab journey in college, could this metodology be aplied to automate the data exchange betwen programs as Revit and Inventor
@AussieBIMGuru
@AussieBIMGuru Жыл бұрын
Currently there isn't a connector for inventor unfortunately, but if they made one then it could definitely help to some degree - ultimately it depends on the goals of the workflow (e.g. is it geometry > geometry, data > data etc.). A list of their connectors is here: speckle.systems/features/connectors/

Weird question, what about connecting Revit file data to other Revit file data with speckle?
@AussieBIMGuru
@AussieBIMGuru 3 жыл бұрын
Not a weird question at all - I think there's definitely valid times for this. One thought is to use it to 'back up' data at a point in time so you can reinstate it later in that same model. On an amusing note, John Pierson shared a post a while back where he used it to partially recreate a model in an older version too: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnrVc5pumKymrKM

Speckle for Vectorworks would be awesome.

I believe they produce connectors if they get sufficient demand, best way to get it is to tell the team: speckle.community/t/new-connector-request-vectorworks

Hi Ravi, still setting up some content work in the meantime over on my platform (so it has technically launched). I want to get this course out before end of July hopefully but there are quite a lot of things I'm contending with on my schedule with work so will do my best.

Looks interresting, could this in theory allow for converting Revit projects from a newer version to an older version?
@AussieBIMGuru

From an information and element perspective yes I believe it can. No views/annotations though.

@@AussieBIMGuru And we're also limited by what the Revit API can handle. To set expectations straight, our Speckle's interoperability is "lossy", and never 100% perfect (we wish we could get there, but it's never going to work, even Revit to Revit).

@@SpeckleSystems one of the lossiest processes I've seen so far, but I get what you mean. I quite enjoyed seeing john pierson's partial revit model downgrade using speckle - beating autodesk at their own game!

I came here after the new Python video. What to say wonderful informations as always. Platforms like Speckle are the future regarding Data base. I am just wondering regarding Geometry optimisation, which kind of the geometry is this? I noticed this type geometry by Navis, Bim Collab Zoom, maybe also Bim 360...They are like easy mesh or something.
@AussieBIMGuru
@AussieBIMGuru 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not 100% sure as they can usually send it back in non-mesh form so the data itself must be converted in the viewer. I would expect mesh is the best option as it has finite face count and can be optimized prior. Might be worth asking them on twitter or their website - they're quite active and responsive.

@@AussieBIMGuru hello Aussie. I sent them an Email regarding Geometry and they replied very quickly. Here is answer from Speckle: "We're transforming every bim object into a speckle object. This usually contains all the properties you'd be used to from revit, and a display mesh that we can display easily. For example, a wall will have its usual properties (area, volume, type, etc), a base line, height, and its display representation".

Indeed, seems they've set themselves up to follow future platforms well. Having said that, very telling of their expectations that we don't see rival platforms to Revit in there like ArchiCAD, AllPlan, Vectorworks, BricsCAD and Sketchup.
@SpeckleSystems
@SpeckleSystems 3 жыл бұрын
@@AussieBIMGuru It's mostly because of where we can get with what we know already, and how accessible the APIs of those apps are. We're actually looking at Sketchup (but none of us know ruby, so it's slow going)! We're not excluding the others at all (we're also hoping the vendors will maybe slowly take up on developing and maintaining these connectors - it's in their interest to link up with a neutral platform).
@AussieBIMGuru
@AussieBIMGuru 3 жыл бұрын
@@SpeckleSystems yes I thought it was likely on the roadmap, and expected each brings its own challenge, thanks for sharing the bigger picture with us though - I know exclusion definitely isnt in your ethos! It's admirable that you're targetting so many platforms, and it offers such a bright future of interoperability for all AEC users.

Thanks for the feedback, yes unfortunately when I'm making free videos on YT my pacing isn't always something I'm overly focused on - I only get so much time to produce, edit and record so the slower I speak the longer it all takes. I'll be making some paid courses eventually and these I will be more focused on pacing (I'm also considering developing subtitles and some translations for common viewer languages like hindi/spanish). My content here is probably best suited to english speakers I guess unfortunately unless KZbin can develop subtitle translation eventually. I usually just suggest to people that slowing the speed on KZbin to .5 or .75 speed and using closed captions helps, but not much I can do about my native accent - I hazard a guess I'd have trouble understand the accents of many of my viewers as well, language can be a tricky thing!
