Mikaela is amazing. If she can stay healthy she will own record books.

Maybe it's just my subjective feeling but thanks to the athletes like Mikaela and Lindsey in recent years skiing became a much more popular sport in US. I have nothing against mainstream US sports but always thought skiing was underappreciated. I'm sure in 7-10 years some of those kids that now take Mikaela's autographs will bring an Olympic gold

I agree with you as far as them both being great athletes. What limits most from pursuing their ski racing dreams or just skiing in general is the insane cost. My daughter is a very good skier and I would have loved to get her into racing but the cost was just to much. I sometimes wish I would have stepped it up more but honestly between living and saving for college it was not possible. I think what hurt the most is when my daughter raced in high school and her times were not far off those that had all kind of training, race skis, and ski outfits. For the most part its a wealthy sport, yes there are a few outliers but they are rare. Take care.

Notice that 4th Globe in the snow for her championship in Super-G. Shiffrin was also leading in Downhill points halfway through the season before skipping races to concentrate on her core events. She is currently the most dominant athlete in any sport right now.

@antille6665 жыл бұрын
Steve M. sorry, my reply was supposed to be at a different comment, but while we're at it: wendy is a great athlete abd i think both her and petra have been challenged by Mikaela to reach a new level, which they may have not reached at all if it wasn't for her. while wendy seemed to fall behind last season, she managed to get pretty good at other disciplines, which again i don't think she would have started competing in if it wasn't for shiffrin. they're turning into allrounders, which used to be pretty rare, and they dominate the world cup to a degree that i didn't think was possible. it's fun to watch them and i hope that we'll see some other ski racers join them in competing across all competitions (e.g. michelle gisin does it already and keeps getting better)

Lewis Hamilton is the most dominant in any sport right now.
@stevem.36465 жыл бұрын
Hamilton has an argument, but he is too linked to the Mercedes. Put him in the HAAS and see how he does. Take Shiffrin from Atomic to Rossignol and she'll still win. Hamilton won 11 of 21 races in 2019. Shiffrin won 11 of 12 in Slalom and 3 of 4 in Super G, and 17 of 33 across all disciplines. Hamilton would need to win a few NASCAR races and the Indy 500. Career win % : LH .336 MS .413

@@gregormiller4037 Yes, PJ is right. It is in my channel. I thought Mikaela would like it because I am learning how to play guitar and she plays it too. I wanted to make something simple and funny. Hope she and other people like it. She is under so much of constant stress that I wish a song like that would make her relax or smile.

Would you like to know why those three made it to the podium? Watch their runs and notice how they keep their face and chest facing and leaning straight down the hill. No leaning or twisting to the side or back. Now compare them to everyone else. You need that upper body discipline so that you will always be balanced no matter which foot you are on. Plus, if you stay centered, you will be able to match the angle of your ski to the snow from side to side with the same input. It's your upper body that dictates what happens to your skis.

@Khaver 25 You get off the downhills arch when you have decided to make the next turn and you have positioned your upper body for it. Getting of the DH ski is the trigger that starts it. You fall down the hill, your uphill ski rolls over and the skis do the rest.

Khaver 25 well that's kinda the thing about mikaela: she seems to be flawless. she barely screws up, she barely drops out of the races, and she has such a great continuity. and on the rare occasions that she screws up, there's always vlhova to beat as well. and she has managed to halfway catch up to mikaela, while wendy fell a bit behind...
