That's so cute and awesome that you eat dinner with your boyfriend's family every evening & that they are so welcoming. My parents are deceased and I have no siblings, so I know how comforting it can be to develop a family dynamic when you aren't used to having one with your own. I'm sure they adore you since you've helped their son, you make him happy, you work hard and have such a good soul. It sounds like you are happy where you're at and have a purpose. You also have friends there, Venus etc.. so that's a plus! Good for you:)

There used to be this advice that was that you should tell people your plans, because knowing that others know your plans helps hold you accountable for them, but newer philosophies on this subject have emerged, and now it's been theorized that if you tell people about your plans, you will actually subconsciously think you are farther ahead on them than you really are, and thusly won't work so hard to achieve them. So one of the newer theories is that you should keep your plans a secret and work hard to achieve them, changing what you want or what doesn't work along the way, and then your friends and family can just be surprised at the outcome whenever it happens. :)

The place you come from has a humbling effect on you I swear. The place I came from I only lived until I was 1 year old, and still it's completely different being there than anywhere, in terms of it naturally makes you humble. Like for example today I was buying magazines and I put my own magazines in a bag whilst the store clerk was processing the transaction and getting change for me. It seems small. But I dunno. It's very true. (I'm not there now but I was today, so sorry if my typing now isn't very humble) I swear.

I'm so jealous of where you are, I also moved to Japan it's been 9 months and I don't think I've been achieving the things I planned to achieve before moving here. And there hasn't been all that many pleasant turn of events, since my arrival, unlike your experience. I also have nothing to achieve in my homeland, but I can't help longing for my old life, when the life I have now is quite trying in comparison to when before I moved to Japan.

I know exactly how you feel! My fiance is from the UK (South Wales) and I'm an American (Ohio). Everytime I go to the UK to visit, his family is lovely! They have dinners every Sunday and movie nights together. My family was never close like that. We never really had sit down dinners because my mom was always working and hanging out with her friends instead... So it's nice to sit down without devices, talk, and catch-up once a week. Also his family eats at very specific times. The structure really helps me. I eat healthier (don't skip meals) and lose weight over there too everytime, haha. He is coming to America to visit in 2 and a half months but I am missing his family so much. I wish to go back there but school is important for me right now. Ugh.

Lol my mum said that too. Five years down the line I'm studying Japanese alongside education at uni getting ready for a year abroad living in Japan. Word of advice, do what you want rather than what your parents want. Ultimately it's your life :)
