Something really interesting about spore is that every creature is saved as a png file. If you go to the folder with all your creatures in it, you can see that every single creature is saved as a png. This means you can actually open your creatures in image viewing software, and look at a 2d png of them. I have no fucking clue how or why the developers did this, but it's cool I guess.
@-Floodlight-3 жыл бұрын
they found a way to store actual data within those PNGs. Really mind-boggling indeed... they also made it so that a time-lapse gif is automatically made of all the things you did while making any creation. Looking back at those reminds me of the thought process I had when making some of my old spaceships.

Spore really is a classic. My most fond memories are: Entering codes into cheat engine to give me more DNA. There was also a way to make the game boot into an expanded cell editor with parts that were normally locked away to the player. There was this glitch you could do to make limbs invisible. By positioning them in certain ways, you could make a creature look like it was swimming through the air. Galactic Adventures. Basically being able to make your own little games and adventures gave the game SO much replay value. My favorite one I made was an underwater adventure using the previously mentioned swimming creature glitch

Fascinating how, from what I understand, Spore was basically talked about at launch the same way people talked about No Man's Sky. In fact I've even seen people compare them directly - ironic given that both of them are now looked at very fondly. The only difference is people dont feel the need to bring up Spore's initial backlash like they do with NMS.
@Nebulaoblivion2 жыл бұрын
Give it time. It took a decade for the mainstream to appreciate spore. People will forget about NMS start too, and in a decade or so, we’ll have videos like this.
@cameleopard422 жыл бұрын
The only difference is nearly everything. Spore promised a lot of great things and received a muted response because it did all of them, just not as well as hoped. No Man's Sky promised a lot of great things and received a backlash because so many promised features weren't even in the game at first, with reception improving as the promised features were eventually added and it became a different game from one it was at release. That there was a lot of hype around each is basically the only thing they have in common and no amount of time will change that.
