If you get hurt my MTI worked with me on it. I hurt my back and couldn't move without getting major back spasms, and my MTI let me rest while they were doing drill because I had my final pt test soon and my parents had already paid for their plane tickets so I didn't want to be put in the med flight. She asked if I could do my pt test and I said yeah I'll suck it up and I ran my 1.5 miles the next day and hit the ground once I passed the finish line in pain. My wingmen picked me up and literally carried me to my dorm again and she let me rest my back again for a few days until the final graduation. From her not med holding me and my flight mates literally carrying me up and down two flights of stairs to make sure I could graduate on time I was so grateful. They had to hide my injury from other flights which was funny but I'll never forget my amazing MTI and fellow flight mates. But seriously if you guys go and get hurt dont hide it from your MTI because then they can't help you.

@Court-wy4pz3 жыл бұрын
@@sanaah6064 That's why it's basic training. The instructors will help break those bad habits and help you develop new ones. The change won't happen in a day. These things takes time. The first time you will notice a change is when someone from back home sees you for the first time after basic. Sometimes it may take a little longer than basic for you to develop more tolerance to fear. Anxiety is completely normal as well, but It's how you cope that matters the most.

Each service has their own way and it depends on the personality going in. I liked how you were very real and mentioned your fears/wants/ideals behind your choice of going airforce. When I have ladies asking me about bootcamp I always ask what they fear the most about it….and if they fear going through a literal beautiful hell (that hell is what drove me towards it ;)….then I steer them away from USMC. Military and AF history and traditions/ranks identification etc, The UNIFORM how to wear it, maintain it. "SECURITY" Race relations, Sexual harassment, First aid, more SECURITY..... SUNDAY is off day... GO TO CHURCH... its down time, relax, no one will be yelling at you. Im Catholic, I went to the Baptist church, looked like they were having more fun, singing etc... (They dont card you at the door, and I dont think God minded) Fitness - BMT is not coming to you as a "SURPRISE" so prepare... BEFORE GOING run a mile in the morning, and a mille in the evening. do 3 sets of setups and pushups each day. I joined at 17, only fitness I had was high school PE class, and I was finishing in the top 10% of AF BTM fitness. If you're 22 or 25 years old, you're a toad... a load in a pair of shoes... 17 and 18 year olds will leave you in the dust... and YOU GET YELLED AT.... Texas is HOT and HUMID in the summer, go to BMT in the fall or winter if possible, I went in Oct 8.... weather was never an issue. Remember this and OBEY.... BMT is about >>>PAY ATTENTION TO DETAIL>LISTEN

Damn all I can say after watching this is that I joined the wrong branch. The food was shit, they treated us like toddlers, there was a lot of pressure not to go to sick call, and they ran us like dogs. This sounds actually like a fun and pleasant experience. Good on you guys. If I re-up I'm switching to air force. Army bct fuckin suuucks.

I went through BMT back in the 90's from 15 April 1997 through 13 June 1997. I washed back but I saw it as a learning experience not as a negative thing. I was also in the 323TRS Flt. 232 and 255. We were known as "The House of Pain" our mascot was Tasmanian Devil wearing BDU pants and a Smokey Bear cover. But everyone called us the house of pancakes we had the best chow hall food. They started the Beasts years after I graduated Basic and everyone in my Flt. wanted go back through basic to do the Beasts. My AFSC was 2A3X3B F-16 Crew Chief with the 4th FS 388th FW 12th AF Hill AFB, UT from Jan 1998 through April 2001.

My husband is currently in the Airforce, and I’m thinking of joining next year (2022) . We would basically be switching roles lol which I don’t really mind . Although we have two kids and this seems like it’d be a great experience considering I’ve really only just been out of HS and automatically went into the stage of being a stay at home mom . I see this as a career choice and feel like I would feel accountable and accomplished. The time apart from my husband and baby girls is really hard for me to wrap my head around …

Wow. BMTS has changed a lot since I enlisted under the Delayed Enlistment Program. DEP. I enlisted for 6 years and didn't actually enter the Air Force till Sep 75. About 5 months after enlisting. I was going to enlist on 1 Apr, but the recruiter asked me to come in on the 2nd, not the first. He was worried I might say April Fools and not show up. I joined under a guaranteed job as an SP, 81150. I got the Lackland AFB 19 Sep 75. I turned 22 the next day. Due to the DEP and 6 year enlistment, I was an A1C after graduation. We didn't have what is now called ECP's but dorm guard. It lasted 2 hours and no weapons, simulated or otherwise. We had a white tornado somewhere in the 3rd week while the flight was at some training somewhere away from our dorm. Our entire dorm area, was a mess. Clothes strewn everywhere, shoes piled up in the shower. Laundry bags tossed all over, beds out of alignment, you get the idea. When we got back, out MTI's gave us like 4 hours to make things shipshape again. Then we had an inspection to be sure everything was properly set up. Oh, the mattresses were scattered, blankets sheets, pillows and so forth. I was a Squad leader for the 4th Squad and I was a bit of a dick, when we were in formation before the MTI showed up, trying to get the others to be quiet. Two of my best friends were two of the other Squad leaders, both were black and we hung together all the time. Some referred to us as a walking Oreo cookie. About the second day, after the hair cut, uniform issue, and everything had been put away, our MTI had all of us in the day room. He handed out pens and those small green notebooks. After that was all passed out, he told everyone with a white pen to raise that pen in the air. He then told everyone with a black pen to do the same. Then he proceeded to tell each of us who had the of that color to press it against our skin. He asked if the pen matched our skin color, and everyone responded we did not match the color of the pen. So he told us then and there, we have no blacks and we have no whites. We were all green. At that time, it was olive drab green fatigues. Never forgot that one lesson from basic. I remember it to this day. Basic back then to me, was easy. It helped that in addition to me, there was only one other basic who was over the age of 21. We had one basic who was 30. We were the more mature amongst the 18-20 year olds. I was an Honor grad out of basic and an A1C. Tech School was at Lackland. I was in casual status until they have enough Airman to fill a class. I stayed at Lackland until Jan 76 after completing Tech School and spending 3 weeks at Camp Bullis. We had "C" rations back then. You know from like either the Korean war or Viet Nam. MRE's didn't come about until the 90's I think. We would get liberty, at times, squad lib dorm lib sometimes base lib. We also had a competition between our flight and out sister flight. The loser had a sign on the door denoting they were "Hog Flight" of the week. I think our sister flight only got that label once. We proudly kept it on our door the rest of the time. One thing to remember. Never take criticism from your MTI personally. You are just another basic for the next 6 weeks. They have been doing this job for either years or are new, and a week after we graduated, they get a new flight of "Rainbows". That was because if you started on a Friday first day and it was late, you didn't get to the hair cut, shots and uniform issue until the next duty day on Monday. I re-enlisted for 6 more years and finally decided to make it a career. After Tech School. I went to Minot AFB ND, walked around alert B-52's, alert KC-135's and the weapons storage area. and sometimes alert F-106's on alert with the TAC squadron. I was assigned to SAC. I was aircraft security and we had missile security squadron and law enforcement. I was there from Feb 76 to May of 77. Then I went to a Belgian AB, Kleine Brogel AB near Peer Belgium, watching alert F-104 Starfighters. after that 23 months at Seymour Johnson AFB NC. Then to Keflavik Naval air station, in Iceland watching alert E-3A's and alert F-4's for a year remote. After that, I got stationed at Andrews AFB MD. After the first year, I was assigned to the flying guard section, Special Air Missions, (SAM). I got to fly with 3 other SP's on diplomatic missions with POTUS, the VP, Congressional delegations, Cabinet members and foreign heads of state. Ten years of flying, I got to visit 131 countries and 46 states. Not one regret in all that time. Yeah, long story, but true. Made a lot of good friends, saw places I never dreamed of seeing when I was a kid. I was afraid to look for a real job when I retired, so I went to work for the Navy for 19 years as a civilian and retired as a Police Captain in 2014. Now, living the life in Florida. Spent 39 years as a federal employee and garnered lots of experiences and friends for a lifetime. After listening to Mikayla, I was amazed at how much it has changed. She is right about something. Joining any branch of the military, after that initial 4 years, your life changes, and you gain a new perspective on responsibility. Sometimes, you might find it hard if and when you return to your hometown. You will have seen a lot of things, your friends may not be able to relate to. But that is life. You run into a veteran and you know what they went through, you went through a lot of the same things, depending on length of service and duty stations. Good memories and some bad ones. Always remember those who had served and are now serving. Thanks Mikayla for sharing your story.

Nearly a month ago I was discharged from Marine basic for medical reasons that I had as a child which randomly came up again after being dormant for most of my life which is why I didn't think to bring it up to my recruiter. Because of this I got fraudulent discharged and was told I can't re-enlist in the Marine Corps. So now I'm considering going air force sometime in the future cause after doing 5 weeks of Marine basic for nothing I'd rather have the process as chill as possible. Just might do it, still thinking about it. But that part where you mentioned having to say something in the gas chamber kinda blew my mind since in Marine basic we didn't have to say anything in the gas chamber. And the gas chamber was the worst things I've experienced in basic, would never wanna do it again in my life ever. So that's a stressful thought to have to go through that again...

It wasn't bad at all honestly. I'm not a very modest person so I wasn't nervous and you don't have a lot of time anyway so you're not going to be thinking about how "weird" it might be.
