It's the return of RLM's most popular series, Jeb and Mark Blark Abort! This time, we bring attention to this Halloween-centric movie that was inexplicably released the same weekend as Barbie and Oppenheimer: Cobweb! The movie was doomed to have abysmal box office and nobody knows why it was release when it was, not even Lionsgate!

And after just watching this review, anyone can see that it's a crime against marketing principles. This is the most Halloween movie since Halloween (or Halloween, or Halloween) and to release it at any other time is just baffling. What the fuck were they thinking?

@@billyjackoffI figured that the thing absolutely had to be supernatural in some capacity, like a weird, Lovecraftian half-breed. @spudrat

it seems the movie is about overprotective parents and the damage they can do to kids. So the older sister could represent how someone like Peter might end up after several years: feeling angry at the world and trapped in the house by parents. Not literally physically trapped, but you know, feeling trapped in a situation and feeling a loss of control of your life...? This could be why she doesn't just break through a wall or kill the parents herself. The dad's bloody arm injury was from the sister, right? She could recognize the parents were the source of her pain. However, the wound was pretty small relative to her strength, so it's likely that she tried to fight back but her obedience was too engrained. This is why she needed Peter to get rid of them for her. or maybe this is just bullshit idk, i really tried to find meaning beyond like, "childhood fears come to life"

"But where do you even advertise anymore?" Good question. The last effective marketing campaign for a horror movie I can think of was for _Smile_ They paid actors to go to events like baseball games, sit behind home plate and smile creepily at the camera. It caught on and generated a lot of buzz for the movie. Anyway, _Cobweb_ sounds like a fun watch

@augustgreig9420
@augustgreig9420 Жыл бұрын
Son, you need to graduate to adding water to the resulting powder, heating it with a lighter, drawing it into a syringe, and then injecting it directly into your vein. Otherwise, you are wasting about 90% of it as the excess does not get absorbed by your sinuses but rather runs down the back of your throat where it ends up in your stomach, at which point it is processed normally, including being filtered by the liver. And that's not something you want. There's only a limited amount Mike and Jay you can get, so you definitely don't want 90% of it to go to waste.

18:29 Jay makes a good point about Gateway Horror movies for kids. I think nowadays, kids' gateway into horror moreso video games than movies, like the Five nights at Freddy's franchise and all the other horror games that emulate that atmosphere. Maybe there is some difficult market competition since a child-oriented horror movie has to compete for attention with video games like FNAF that have remained viral for like 10 years or so, and turned into a million dollar franchise. But im not a marketing agent or a horror buff so i dont know for sure.

A random thought I had while watching this: is "person in the walls" a fear / creepy idea that mainly works for people who live in actual houses? As somebody who's lived an apartments almost my entire life, I always hear strangers through my walls so I don't find it particularly spooky as a concept. It's kind of like being a pet owner (which I am) and hearing little noises at night; you just get used to it and assume it's your pets being goobers rather than anything scary going on.
@ChrisSmith-mi2zo
@ChrisSmith-mi2zo Жыл бұрын
Well of course things your brain can instantly rationalize aren't scary. It's not specifically things in walls, but the unknown of hearing things where they aren't supposed to be. Even if you can rationalize it, strange sounds in walls are likely to be something unpleasant like pests. There's also something of a trope that, since walls are rarely ever opened, they could be used to hide things, from secret passages to a killer's victims. Lots of horror plays off of things in unexpected places, I mean you don't expect a clown in a storm drain or a threatening phone call to be coming from your own house.
@Kellan__they-them
@Kellan__they-them Жыл бұрын
@@ChrisSmith-mi2zo Yeah I agree. I guess I was trying to say, for people who've mostly lived in houses as opposed to apartments, is there more of an automatic fear response to hearing a strange noise in the walls, or more of a fundamental "ooo creepy" reaction to the concept? Since they haven't had noises like that constantly rationalized / they haven't become desensitized to wall noises.

I had no idea this even came out and I didn't even see a poster put up at my local theatre. Talk to Me, another horror movie going against the giants, did pretty well and the girlfriend and I enjoyed it. First time directors with the horror being more focused on tension and creep factor compared to jumpscares. It has a scene of someone sucking on someones toes so it's got all the stuff that Jay needs!

@@OccultDemonCassettein what way? It was an original story, that didn’t rely on jumpscares and shit, had good cinematography, actually made you care and be invested in the characters and sympathise with them. You know using atmosphere, character-sympathising, tension, to make you scared and invested akin to the way The Exorcist does. Not comparing the two, just saying that similar approach to those older movies rather than modern reliance on jumpscare and shock.

@@GuineaPigEveryday I don't know what to tell you. The entire time I was watching it just felt like it was heavily inspired by the styling, pacing and atmosphere of Malignant, but from a childlike perspective. Personally I think saying that it's a less-good version of Malignant is high praise as that was one of the best atmospheric action-horror flicks of the at least the last decade.
@GuineaPigEveryday

@@OccultDemonCassette im not sure what u mean by childlike perspective, perhaps akin to watered-down? But in the case of Talk To Me, I do love the way it uses the perspective of teenagers and that exorcism is being exploited like a fun party-drug rather than some ominous thing the kids are scared of. It's an interesting twist, that isn't over-done, and more so i think it works excellently in the modern era, because ofc exorcism would become a tiktok trend. I haven't seen Malignant, i just really dug the characters in Talk To Me, and really sympathised with Mia. But i wouldnt be surprised at all if Talk To Me took a lot of inspiration from Malignant, it's racka-racka's first film, still besides that they still did all of this themselves and had a great script, good characters and great cinematography, even if its inspired/taking-influence-from.

Marianne is incredible, do finish it as its slow burn pays off incredibly. Extremely satisfying and has the fairy tale feel this director works with in Cobweb. Personally, I think it's better than Cobweb but admittedly they had a whole series to develop characters and themes. Love this guy's approach to horror, can't wait to see more from M. Bodin

surprisingly the horror stories that creeped me out the most were Neil Gaiman's --- him and hallways man. But the most notable one (besides Coraline and the episode of Doctor Who he wrote) was also the simplest: There's Wolves in the Walls, a children's picture book. It was the kind of horror that rests in your gut for a few days. But yeah, Things in Walls really worked for kid me, even in book form

When I was a 14 year old lad I went with a group of friends to a guy named Stuart "loose bum" Rennie's house. While there someone asked his mother how Stuart got the moniker Loose Bum. She started laughing and told us the tale of how she sent him to boarding school 4 year prior, when Stuart Loose Bum was 15. While he was there he provoked a bunch of the other boys and they sneak attacked him, beat him up and crammed a glass bottle up his rear end. The boys then smashed the bottle with a swift hit to the abdoment with a baseball bat. The damage to Stuart Loose Bums colon and anus was so extensive that he lost the ability to control his bowel movements for quite some time. During that time his mother started calling him loose bum and his peers started following suit. Stuart "Loose Bum" Rennie died of a meth overdose 7 years ago. You can look up his obit. His son is now a fenti addict. 😮 That was an interesting experience. Been thinking a lot about that when watching spooky movies lately
