In 2008 during the great financial meltdown, one of the worst years to open a luxe restaurant in New York City, Chef Michael White, his then partner Chris Cannon and financial backer Ahmass Fakahany formed the AltaMarea group and opened Marea showcasing seafood and pasta done the Italian way. Within months they earned 3 stars from The New York Times followed by 2 Michelin Stars succeeding against long odds in creating one of the top seafood restaurants anywhere.
