This is absolutely AWESOME, but my brain hurts after watching this...lol...I actually just booked a 40 min lesson with you for Dec. 13th as I really want to start learning this style of guitar playing with adding the percussion to finger picking. I'm a full-time musician and I'm always looking to challenge myself with new things to learn. I usually focus on strumming and singing + live looping guitar/vocals, but this style really intrigues me to be honest! Looking forward to our lesson as I'm going to really work on this stuff in the next month and a half until our lesson. Thanks for the tutorial as it is VERY helpful in breaking down this technique.

I recently saw Mike when he opened for, and played with, Justin Hayward of The Moody Blues doing a trio gig in San Diego. He was absolutely mind blowing on his solo stuff, and very tasteful when he was backing Justin. If you're a Moody's fan, don't miss this. It's like a mini-Moody Blues greatest hits tour and it was really good.

This is absolutely AMAZING! I've been playing guitar for 30 years and I'm a full-time musician between performing & teaching and I've always been intrigued by this style of playing guitar. I'm delving into this style big time and I'm loving it. I realize it's going to take a while to really get down pat and it's DEFINITELY a challenge, but it's also fun to challenge ourselves as it's the only way to really grow as a musician is to break out of our comfort zone. Looking forward to the Zoom lesson I recently booked with Mike Dawes on Dec. 13th as I'm giving myself about 5 weeks total to get this style decent before the lesson...making progress! This video helps A LOT!!!! Thanks so much Mike! :)

Right before when he added the cheese and the bass together I told myself I wouldn't be ready for how awesome it would sound. Even after telling myself that and when I heard the cheese n bass I simply laughed out loud at how amazing that was.

hey mike know this vid is an old one but I'm curios if you have created or is there a tablature for your type of style and playing I know they have tabs for most instruments I'm half deaf so tabs are really the easiest way for me to learn I'm hoping there is man, you have really inspired me to learn your style its just to hard to play with others because of my hearing , one more thing I just had to let you know I heard your song today the old room live at cedar hall ,omg man idk if its was the tuning or pitches or what but I was able to hear the whole song and hear every note chord I've never heard sounds like that it broke me to tears I was born deaf and and can hear a little now but i can't even do that yet on my guitar lol i still have to go half on feel ,thank you for that mike I mean that you made me a fan for life today

Question: How much do you think your guitar needs to be amped to play this style? I know that everything begins with the hands, but anyway, I think some articulations won't come out properly without an amp. Is an electro-acoustic guitar enough or do you add something more?
