So glad to find someone that actually likes a mixture of knowing what good music is. e.g. Metallica and John Mayer. They are completely different genres of music but are both REAL music. I hate people that say "oh John Mayer sucks and is gay, Metallica are the best!!!" or vice versa. Don't understand how some people can live with only enjoying ONE type/genre of music...

John Mayer's body of work stands out so much nowadays because so much of his work embraces the '70s ethos. Great singer, songwriter, and incredible guitar skills, but more important ...... taste.

Just saw Mike Dawes last night, for the first of what is hopefully many times. No intention to be unfair, but after the passing of Michael Hedges, there have been many good players, but for me none who expressed musicality and emotion as did Hedges. Dawes, IMHO is in that class. He performed as host and collaborator in an international guitar jam at the San Jose Jazz Winterfest 2020. Also tasty were his duets with other artists, as he also knows how to gracefully complement and feature the other artists. Cenk Edogan from Turkey, who plays a fretless guitar was also excellent! Dawes let slip that he is going to be doing a project later this year with Tommy Immanuel, and one other player (who's name I forgot). Good stuff!

arun kumar I was in a similar situations few years ago. I know this doesn't solve your issue but I hope it helps. Obviously ALOT of practice is what you'll need. Alot of the older fingerstyle guitar songs on Candyrat are a straight on camera view. Find a song, the tuning and just repeatedly watch the video and try to adjust finger placement with the sounds your hearing. I've learned quite a few chunks and some full songs over the years doing this. I hope this helps at least a little bit

Heyo, check out Tam Lu. He does fingerstyle covers of anime music, and provides free tabs. Kirameki is a good one to start with, just take it slow. After that, look at Callum Graham; he has a several, very good tutorials up. They're pretty complex, but he breaks them down into easily manageable pieces, if you're willing to take your time with it.

I like it. He's usually good for a couple mind-bending hybrid and legato runs, but he really let this one breathe. I thought it was beautiful.

I think it was an improv, like off the top of his head. It sounded natural though.

I didn't feel that way at all, it was straight up the pentatonic scale - I think he tastefully entered the solo, especially the slide/vibrato on 3:16-3:18, sounds like butter melting if there was a sound for that!

@@KP-rz6pf Gee, ok. The fact that this is a cover of a John Mayer song (with vocals), kind of went right over your head didn't it. ;) The guitar rendition here is certainly better but try playing it as well as Mayer does, while singing (as well as John does). That's the point.

@@MotoJB It didn't went over my head, I know very well about the original song but am just saying the way he puts vocal melodies in his guitar I would chose that over the original vocals anytime, just my opinion.

@@KP-rz6pf "Vocal melodies in his guitar" cannot replace...um...actual vocals. I like both but one can't replace nor even truly compare one to another. There are two different approaches going on here.

I've enjoyed playing that song for years.. it's the kind you can change up and make your own and never get bored with..Mike never gets old to watch and hear either. Right there with Andy McKee and Antoine Dufour.
