Here in 2022 - and even back 1992, they were always talking about how cheap the McCaskey’s are. SMH something’s never change.

Yes it was real back then. Mike Ditka had a passion for the game and it showed on and off the field. Today it's all corporate mentality. Mike said it the way it was and that's what made him a great coach. If the Bears are ever to find the identity again they need to find a coach from the 85 team. Not to many younger people in this generation have any idea of what the monsters of the midway were all about. When you played against the bears back then you better have had plenty of ice packs on hand. Thanks for the memories Coach Ditka.

Bottom line, Ditka just got lazy, and the team suffered because of it. That may sound harsh, but it is true. To only win 1 Super Bowl with that assembly of players (six Hall of Famers), is completely and utterly unacceptable. Ditka was more interested in doing commercials , tv, radio and newspaper spots than keeping an eye and attention on his team. Very sad, because he could have been compared to the Parcels and Belichek's if he would have been more focused. Hell of a player in his day, but a coach, average at best. Wasted potential.

Yes and no. There were a lot of big egos on those Bear teams and yes, Da Coach arguably had the biggest ego of them all. IMO, it all started when George Halas hired Ditka over Buddy Ryan to be the head coach in '82. And naturally, Buddy was not happy about that. Even though Da Bears won it all in '85, there were big cracks in their foundation that season - the biggest when Marino and the Dolphins exposed Buddy's 46 Defense on MNF. Ditka wanted the nickel and Buddy literally told him to fuck off. Then when Buddy left to become the Eagles head coach after the season, it just wasn't the same intensity with the defensive players. But even more so was the Player's Strike in '87 - and when Ditka called his replacements the "Real Bears", that's when the true colors showed, not just with Ditka, but the regulars as well. And of course, Jim McMahon wasn't exactly in top shape - partying all the time after winning it all in '85........and he was ultimately shown the door after '88. Wilber Marshall found greener pastures, ended up winning another Super Bowl with the Redskins. Willie Gault ended up with the Raiders. Heart attack aside, Ditka's intensity was still there to the end, but the talent no longer was. Cheap ownership (in the McKaskeys) didn't help, either.

@@MrTeatreeoil as a packers fan I’m gonna defend the bears on this one. How many playoff games did buddy Ryan win as eagles head coach? 0. So even if you wanna say buddy Ryan was great and was the real reason the 85 bears won the super bowl well clearly buddy Ryan needed mike ditka as well. Also as much as I hate the bears, I do respect them. The Vikings on the other hand, talk so much shit for a team that hasn’t won shit their entire existence. You wanna talk about failure? The Vikings are a legacy of failure and being a choking hazard. From the 0-4 Super Bowls of the 70s, to the dropped pass against the redskins in the nfc championship game, to Gary Anderson’s miss and total choke artist job in the 1998 nfc championship game after going 15-1 and at the time was the highest scoring offense in nfl history, to Nathan Pooles catch in 2003 that ended the Vikings 2003 season after starting the year 6-0 to Brett favres interception in 2009 to blaire Walsh’s miss in 2015 to the 2017 nfc championship where you get your asses handed to you. Lol at least the bears have won championships and have won a Super Bowl. Vikings have not. They haven’t earned the right to talk shit but they do anyway. FOH
