Some very fine shots. Gatting was a delight to watch!

Maybe by people like you. But I remember Gatt for a lot of much happier reasons. He was a great cricketer and is a super guy.

I have happy memories of Mike Gatting in test cricket - he didn't have a great record and his fitness level was appalling but things were never dull when he was involved.

Good old dad. Never remembered for the right reasons. Still pretty fit by today's standards despite the fish and chip dinners.

His final tour and last hundred for England. Was about 38 at the time, already way past his prime.

He was an average player scoring only 10 centuries between 1977 - 1995. Not sure how kept coming back to side for 18 long years. Must be some sort of corruption in English cricket in those fays

A great innings from Gatt, a shame he didn't score more runs on this tour though, I think his series average was only about 22.

gatting makes me chuckle soo much. especially his puffy round little henry VIII face after being smacked in the face off malcolm marshall 😄😆

the ironic thing about this knock was his total number of runs in the other 8 innings on that tour was only 65. He was sadly past his best by then although the century reminded others he could still play a bit

@@Deira854 He was a permanent fixture and had an excellent in the side between 84/88 and the captain between 86/88. but was banned between 89/82. In hindsight probably shouldnt have been recalled after the ban

The selection of Gatting was a strange one seeing he was dropped after Ashes 93 and he did not play for England for a year and a half so to recall him made no sense. Up to this point Gatting had only scored 57 runs in the serious and there were calls to get him dropped. The second innings he got a duck and everyone thought 175 was an easy target for the Aussies and people were talking about England bowlers pulling off a brilliant win when the Aussies were 140 for 4 and non mentioned Gatting's century. The next test he failed again and announced his retirement soon afterwards

@@Deira854 Before he was captain he was good and his first class average was impressive. After being England captain I can remember this as his only century in 5 years because he failed in 89 Ashes then joined the rebel tour getting banned.
