Yeah he made green arrow an adult comic at a time when comics, especially Dc wasn’t making adult stuff. It was different at that time.

I would buy a Warlord omni in a heartbeat. I met Mike at a con a few years back and really looked for some Warlord back issues for him to sign and couldn't find anything. I was so disappointed. Got a sketch though!

Great interview! Long-time watcher, first time commenter, here. I watch your videos on my X-Box/TV, so I am never commenting because I am not at my computer when I watch your videos. This Mike Grell interview prompted me to fire up the computer and comment. Last night, just before seeing your video, I had finished reading Warlord #41 and in the previous days I read Warlord #'s 37-40. His work is outstanding! Pass it on to DC for me, that I am sure Mike Grell's fans would appreciate a Warlord Omnibus. The back-issue comics are robustly bought and sold on e-Bay and in comic shops, so an omnibus would definitely sell. I recently hunted down a particular Warlord run, #37-51 of Warlord, because I was trying to get all of the OMAC backup stories [in Warlord 37-39; 42-47] but I bought the run through to #51 because it reprinted #1 and #50 was double-sized, and I figured it was a no-brainer that I would love the Warlord stories in the front of the book and I was right. They are terrific. As a young collector I was more of a Marvel guy and allowance money was not enough to go around to buy everything I thought looked amazing on the stands. Back in 1987 as a 13-year old, I was sorely tempted, but sadly passed on the Mike Grell's prestige format Longbow Hunters and his writing on the ongoing Green Arrow monthly but I did briefly look through them each week with admiration. I am not an omnibus guy yet - but your videos are corrupting my brain and making me want a few, so maybe a few volumes of Mike Grell's Warlord might prompt me to get started. Let DC know it would be a good idea to put those out.

A bronze age omni of his Warlord run could fit into one volume (#1-52 and annual #1). His later Warlord works would make an excellent additional hardcover. Please, IDW and DC, make this happen! Grell is a legend!

The Jon Sable Omnibus looks beautiful! I have all seven TPBs that IDW published some years ago but I can't wait to buy a copy of that Omnibus and read the whole story all over again. Jon Sable is incredibly entertaining and Mike Grell is a master storyteller. Here's hoping that we'll get that Warlord Omnibus ASAP. Let's make it happen, Omar!

Mike Grell is one of the greatest comics creators of all time. He created one of my all time favorite characters in Jon Sable. Definitely picking up that omnibus.

I had the great privilege of meeting Mr. Grell at a convention about 4 years ago. I was fortunate enough to own a first printing copy of what is still the only tpb color collection of the first 7 issues of the original Warlord. The book is well over 30 years old but in awesome condition. Mike not only signed the inside cover but drew a Warlord head sketch for me as well. He could not have been any nicer and generous with his time. A true legend.

Warlord was one of the stand-out DC runs of the 70's due to the incredible Mike Grell artwork & storytelling!! Then in the 80's he topped himself with Longbow Hunters making Green Arrow a strong first rate character!! My signed copy of Longbow Hunters #1 is treasure in my collection!

Mike Grell is the absolute best. Got to meet him at ECCC years ago and he signed my GA Longbow Hunters mini. Charming, kind, incredibly talented, exactly like you hope your heroes will be when you meet them in person. A true legend in every sense of the word. Having finally read Grell's GA run the past 2 years (both Omnis) I have to say wow fantastic stuff. Happy for not only the reprinting of GA but all of his other work that I'm now interested in exploring. Great interview and Grell seems like a totally cool dude to hang out with!

I love Grell’s comics but I don’t agree that captions in comics are a bad thing. I picked up a lot of reading skills as a boy from a comic and I think that well written prose can really lift a comic. I am not keen on current comics where you can read the whole book in 8 minutes. It is not possible to convey everything that is going on through dialogue and pictures even of every artist were as skilled as Mike.
