Good morning, Rev Ed. Today's talk hits me where I live - in California. HERE'S THE REAL DEAL: Regarding FEDERAL officials blaming California for poor "forest management" for wildfires. . . there are 30 million acres of wildlands in California - the FEDERAL government owns approximately 58% of California's forests, meaning a significant majority of the state's forest land is under FEDERAL management and control - California state has pretty much "no say" in how this 58% of FEDERAL forests are managed. A LARGE portion of the California wildfires that everyone reads about burn on FEDERALLY managed land. Additionally, you CANNOT "sweep" THIRTY MILLION ACRES OF FOREST on an annual basis - it must be annual, because "swept" brush, leaves, whatever - always grow back!! Who is going to pay for this annual "sweeping"? Thinking 1 ton per acre of "swept" debris - where does this thirty million tons of debris go - EVERY YEAR? Who transports these sweepings out of the forest? Etc. etc. etc. The suggestions by FEDERAL officials that disaster relief funds for Southern California be withheld because California officials are somehow at fault for these current fires - and, I guess, all of the fires of the past decades - and, I guess, the fact that bone-dry 100 mph Santa Ana winds blow over parched earth. . . Suggesting that funds should be withheld until if/when California's management practices are changed. is misinformed and political HOOEY. The annual Santa Ana and Diablo winds of southern and northern California, including high summer temperatures and prevailing drought, are no less unstoppable, unchangeable, facts of nature (and thus out of human control) than are the devastating hurricanes and tornadoes in other parts of the country. FEDERAL officials have no problem granting funds to victims of hurricanes and tornadoes. These FEDERAL officials do not understand the climate here in California: our rainy season is, generally, from about late October to late April. From May to October there will generally be NO measurable rain here - maybe a sprinkle or two - enough to wet the sidewalk, maybe - but that's it. (Currently, the Los Angeles area - current Palisades Fire - has received NO RAIN IN EIGHT MONTHS). Add that to the fact that, in addition to being bone dry, California is HOT in the summer. In my area (Sacramento) weeks can go by when the daytime temperature doesn't get below 100* - top temps can exceed 110 +/- for days. So, no rain from May to October, everywhere is baked bone dry. . . and then the Santa Ana/Diablo winds come (Santa Ana winds were responsible for this current Los Angeles - Pacific Palisades - fire). It doesn't take a genius to figure out what comes next. It takes next to nothing to get a MAJOR wildfire burning here under these conditions - to name one example (in addition to the current Palisades Fire) the Carr Fire, a large wildfire in 2018 that blew up near Redding, Ca. This fire ignited on July 23, 2018, and eventually burned 229,651 acres. This fire was ignited when a flat tire on a vehicle caused the wheel's rim to scrape against the asphalt, throwing sparks into the roadside dry grass. The Carr Fire burned for 39 days and destroyed 1,077 homes. Don't take my word for it - Google "The Carr Fire". If anyone is interested in this kind of stuff (I am) and wants to get to the truth of the matter (without all of the bombastic media and political hype) I suggest a website to visit: the-lookout.org/ Here is an article explaining another part of the fire problem in California (this goes a long way to explaining what REALLY happened in Pacific Palisades - and why it WILL happen again): "The Impossibility of Urban Wildfire Mitigation": the-lookout.org/2025/01/11/the-impossibility-of-urban-wildfire-mitigation/ Mr. Lundner, author of this piece, has been professionally involved in fire management for more than 30 years. Thank you

Agreed! This is the *same* BS argument that the soon-to-be Id10t-in-chief used the last time this happened during his first term: "Why didn't you rake the forest?" Oh, gee, could it be that we're talking about a FOREST? That covers hundreds of square miles, and is not just the leaves that fell off the tree in your backyard?? Also, we know EXACTLY why they are doing everything they can to keep from helping us in California: it's political! Trumpie-boy is mad that California doesn't come running like a pack of lapdogs ready to lick his hands and sit up and beg in order to procure treats. He can't stand the idea that we didn't vote for him in droves, so he's going to punish us by sitting back and smirking while he watches us suffer. Of course, his sycophants are hanging beside him, cackling gleefully as they watch the head bully shake down the other kids for their lunch money. I think there's something missing from this analysis. In 2004, when the Tsunami hit and killed over quarter of a million people living mainly in East and South Asia, I was living in London. Shortly thereafter, a Church of England Minister stated that the Tsunami was a "Judgement from God" against the "Sexual Immorality" in South East Asia. While most people ignored the rant, the Church of England hierarchy was "out to lunch" if they were ever questioned about this. For centuries, "Religious Leaders" have attempted to use Natural disasters as evidence of Divine Judgement (And, yes, they would ALWAYS capitalize "Divine Judgement"). And let us be honest here, for Decades believing Evangelical Christians have been "hating" on California. And, lead by Mike Johnson and the Rapist far too many White US Evangelicals consider their own personal "Messiah", the Haters now control Congress, so they are going to enforce their hate - a hate they have learned and been taught in their Churches. Now, it is worth noting that only SOME Natural Disasters are equated with "Divine Judgement", so the repeated Hurricanes that regularly hit the Racist South Eastern US is NOT ever seen as judgement for their historic and continuing Racism (mainly because the preachers of that Racism are the very ones who declare what is and is not "Divine Judgement"). Straightforwardly, what we have in the way White Racist Evangelical "Christians" are reacting to the wildfires in California, is EXACTLY what we would expect them to do - because that is the way they are being taught by White Racist Evangelical "Christian" preachers and teachers - and unfortunately, that is the way it has always been....

I always appreciate your view as a Christian who i think really hits the core teachings of Jesus well. While I am pagan, this is the good will and compassionate attitude we should all have for one another regardless of belief. It's not about changing behavior. It's about looking another soul in desperate need in the eye and choosing to give, to help, to do more than "thoughts and prayers". A helping hand is a righteous hand. Mike Johnson has always sickened me. His smarmy and narrow view is a grotesque and perverse version of what a lot of powerful apologists see as righteous Christianity. Gone is the idea of being kind because that is what a human should do. They are very good at hating the sin, but they completely ignore the part about loving the sinner. It has always rubbed me the wrong way that Johnson and a little gaggle of his cronies would kneel in the middle of the congressional floor and pray before getting to business. His Christianity does not bother me. I'm fine that he is a man of faith, but in a religious neutral setting like a government building, that is not OK. ...especially now that he holds the purse over the heads of thousands of people without the basic needs and with no end in sight. How dare he have the audacity to exhibit such blatant pageantry then deny his fellow humans in their time of most need. Martin Luther said that we are all beggars at Christ's table, and His generosity toward us is due entirely to His grace, not our worthiness. One of my favorite poems is by George Herbert; it's called "Love" (actually the third poem of that name in his book _The Temple_ ), and it's a perfect illustration of the unworthiness of Man and the amazing grace of God.

The people that I find to be truly good and faithful servants of our Lord are honest and humble and lead by example.

My son and I and our 3 kittens and 2 adult cats live in genteel poverty. The only conditions placed on us to get aid is from the state and US governments, to prove we are actually poor and cannot work so we can both have Medicaid and so I can have an EBT food card. We're not disabled enough for any other kind of aid. We get by, but if we didn't have people I call "angels", we'd be in BIG trouble. Right now, it's property taxes; if the back taxes don't get paid by 3/31/25, the county will take the house. That *may* be covered but I don't know for sure yet.

How far can people be removed from the true meaning of Christianity before they realize they had it all wrong. At the moment, I want little to do with anyone who professes their “Christian” beliefs while perched upon their soapbox, because a relationship with Jesus should be humble. Just because someone drives an expensive car, does not mean they’re wealthy. Some of the church-going people I know, are some of the worst people in my community. To err is human, to err over and over with an ugly heart, well, that just makes you a butthole.

🤍😇Thank You Rev T. I live in Northeast California in a tiny mountain town (1900-2000 pop) that's been flooded twice in the last 6 years with wildfire refugees made homeless as well small armies of Firefighters being housed in vacant buildings/schools converted into "Fire Camp" for all the wildland and HotShot crews. Same for the Red Cross shelter that was in town for a few months at the Catholic church. Wall-sized bulletin boards with updated maps were stationed outside several grocery stores and gas stations with a uniformed Forest Service or CalFire rep standing on duty to answer passersby, townspeople, shoppers questions. Sorry to ramble 🙃but I am so appreciative and grateful to the aid given to our wildnerness communities in the past. To attach strings, conditions for helping Los Angeles (and us other Californians in the future) is vile. Love your channel! Blessings to all of us 😁ALLOVEUS

Anyway, it's so disheartening knowing that the government can provide billions of dollars for other countries' military forces, yet gives the LA wildfire victims a one-time stipend of only around $770! I've seen this from both parties. I love my country, but just like some of my exes, they've got their priorities all mixed up!

Therefore as the elect of God Holy and dearly loved clothe yourselves with a heart of mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another, if someone happens to have a complaint against anyone else. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also forgive others. And to all these virtues add love which is the bond of perfection. Let the peace of Christ be in control in your heart, and be thankful.

Sweeping the forest?? The people that are screaming about mismanagement have no idea what they are talking about. I was born in California. The Los Angeles basin was called the valley of smoke because this is a place where the wind blows and fires burn fast. People in California do fire abatement. That is clearing fence lines and sprinkles. Socal works with residents on fire prevention. Years ago, some cities went to fire retardent roofing. My sisters house was saved by the with of a road last year. She did everything they were told to do. Wildfires are just that wild. You add 100 mile in hour winds. Really, there is no way to stop it. I get tired of info government. A little research doesn't take that long. Especially when you have a staff to do it for you.

Thank you so much for this, as well as your many many short videos. As an USA citizen, I am sickened at how many of my fellow USAmericans are either so easily duped they keep falling for the nonsense; or are so greedy, self-serving and bigoted they have been waiting for Trump since Reagan. I am a 79 year old white woman who consistently finds myself in the verge of tears and disgust (tho' I continue to march, speak out, because my grandkids deserve a better future). I have been politically active since the 1960s. I was raised catholic, went to catholic schools, but now consider myself agnostic. I don't know who or what superior being created it all, but I refuse to believe in the malignant narcissistic God and/or Jesus of the GOP, the prosperity gospels, or opus dei and/or evangelicals. **** I left organize religion decades ago. IMO, Trump is not the cause, he is THE RESULT OF 40+ years of "greed is good", cloaked in flags and bibles, dog whistling racism, misogyny, and anti-semitic, anti Muslim, anti-immigrant rhetoric to "Make America (white, christian, anglo) Again. It's insane and as I read somewhere, Canadians must think they're living above a crazed meth lab. Anyway,, I so enjoy hearing your thoughtful words. You espouse the one thing I took away from my childhood catholic school lessons; REAL LOVE, GOD'S LOVE, perfect is unconditional. And doing good, giving must be unconditional. Unfortunately most (current) religious leaders forgo that thought in favor of "threats of the fire of damnation" to build their churches. So your good works are so appreciated.😍
