Love these so much. Andy's right, there are so few resources for arch photographers. Also please create some tutorials. I would kill to take Where Are Meets Architecture, but a lot of us can't afford $300 for a tutorial. Especially when starting out, it's hard to know where to begin and whether or not you're giving yourself bad habits.

Honestly it's worth it. If they run a sale you should buy them. If you don't know the basic of post processing, lighting, etc then you aren't likely to find a more condensed and centralized source out there.b

10:34 Man, I feel that. As hard work as it is, I prefer to keep it personal. Even if while doing Im like "FAWK! I have alot of editing to do." I just take breaks, stretch, brew coffee, and get back to the grind.

We realize that almost every architect may already have their favorite photographer but to blame someone for not knowing that you're already a favorite and mocking that photographer for emailing your client is kind of a low blow. New photographers need to do whatever they can regardless of whether or not it winds up being a home run. I recall you saying one time in the past that it was a numbers game. Don't forget where you came from.

I think it's pretty ballsy to email someone with an established relationship and try to poach that, don't you? It's one thing if you get called because the normal photographer isn't available, but to really think you are spending your time wisely by bombarding clients with 'hire me' emails when they are already working with a photographer they have a deep relationship with is pretty ballsy.
@JoePulcinella3 жыл бұрын
@@mikekelley Maybe if he knowingly bombards the client even after he's been told that he's already happily working with you but there may be cases where he may not realize he's poaching. After all, how may architects list the photographer's name next to their photos? I can see if I email one of your clients and act like a douchebag and attempt to minimize you and your work in an effort to steal some of that work away. But how many of those cold emails you sent 10 years ago went to architects who already had established relationships? We've all been "that guy" at one time. Anecdote: I recently did reach out to an architect who just happened to be looking for a new photographer because he was dissatisfied with his current photographer. So it happens.

@@mikekelley That aside, thanks for the show. I enjoy tuning in to see what's on the minds of others in our industry.

I agree with you. And frankly, even if you do know the architect has a preferred photographer how does it hurt to ask? Are we all just supposed to look for architects with inconsistencies in their hired photography hoping that it means they might need a go to guy? Or wait until Mike is done with them? Will Mike send out a memo to let us know when it's OK to approach his clients? I can't really believe its a topic of conversation. Do they scoff at every single vendor who tries to start a relationship with them? Get a load of this guy, doesn't he know I have a preferred janitor for our office? Doesn't this coffee supplier know I get my beans shipped in on mules straight from Guatemala? Doesn't this photographer know I work with THE MIKE KELLY! That architect sounds like a bit of a douche.
@MarlowWhere3 жыл бұрын
@@mikekelley the relationship is deep until it isn't. You probably have clients now that in a year or two won't be calling you anymore or you will drop. If it's strong enough to survive an inquiring photographer then you don't need to worry about it.

i'm from belgium and i think the most photographers here have the same style of photography. I think my style is different because i'm trying to have a mixed style between mike kelley, serge ramelli and my own.

Guys I love the interviews but this one as well as Kendal's...Tom really dominated the conversation. Let the guest talk or pretty soon these will become Mike and Tom talk while an Architectural Photographer listens in silence. The best part of this one was the last 5 minutes where Andy got to actually discuss his style, where he was allowed to speak for more than a minute before being cut off. Would have loved to hear more of that. Please ask questions then stop talking and let the guest answer. If a question takes a minute to get through, its now a statement with a "do you agree?" Tacked on. I know you guys are new to this but tone it down.
@zanderbastedo89143 жыл бұрын
I disagree. I view these as discussions, not necessarily interviews. I think they provide more value by bringing their different experiences to the discussion.
