RIP Warren Bernhardt 8-19-2022 at age 83. This was one of my first saved videos on KZbin, back in the early days of the platform. Found it after learning of Eberhard Weber and taking him on as one of my dearest influences as a bassist. I have revisited this video again and again as I've grown as a musician over the years and find joy and new excitement in this performance every time i hear it.

What a great song. First time hearing it in late 2022 almost 40 years after it was written. Great music always stands the test of time

Great Record. The best thing about KZbin is finding gems from the past like this & the bonus of Billy Cobham as I think the original recording was Peter Erskine. Pure Gold

Beautiful- this was a really creative. In New York electric jazz. This came out this year I graduated high school. Me and my friends would hop on a subway downtown and catch these people in a tiny 2nd-floor club owned by the Brecker brothers called 7th Avenue South. Really sad that this type of plan, in this style, has completely disappeared almost. Changing tastes, and maybe just way, way too many kilos of Peruvian marching powder turned this into a very short period in jazz.

What do you mean by "kilos of cocaine"? Are you referring to musicians or club owners/promotors abusing it?
@rhythmfield3 жыл бұрын
@@jeshkam just the scene in general. I was too young so I didn’t see piles of snow, but my understanding was, there was a lot of it around it became very destructive on the musicians and maybe others… Recording engineers, radio personalities (still important then)? Management? I don’t know.

@@rhythmfield Coke was everywhere back then. Jazz, pop, rock, TV, Hollywood. Maybe that's why we have so much quality films and music from that era. And a decent amount of sh*t stuff too. What goes up must go down I suppose... 😎

I agree Warren Bernhardt is a great keyboard player. I have to laugh at the Donald Fagan videos on KZbin where the two of them sit dissecting some of Donald's great compositions. I am sure that they have tremendous respect for each other, but if someone watched the videos without knowing who they are, they might conclude that Warren was in some way a beginner. Quite funny. Great upload, many thanks.

I first hear Mike with Buddy Rich and his playing was absolutely amazing then. This is in a whole new category - 25 years old and still fresh.
