The best drummer that any band could have, he is truly incredible. Thanks Mike

Was just listening to this album today, such an incredible outro. Your drumming is awesome and will be sorely missed in DT (at least missed by me).

Obviously Mister Mangini cares more about drumming and the art for the sake of art and teaching than any status. I really ended up losing a list of respect for DT as a business since the “talent show” came online. It was fake and people still did it. Then they sacked Mangini here. But that’s alright because it helped me pay more attention to him.

@@einarabelc5 To be honest, I lost more respect for Dream Theater when they fired Mangini in favour of Portnoy returning. I get that he was the original drummer, that's fine... but John Petrucci had said multiple times in prior interviews that Mangini would be staying in Dream Theater, and that Portnoy playing on JP's solo album and LTE 3 wouldn't change that. And plenty of fans (such as myself) stuck with the band in spite of all the vitriol against Mangini online. Hell, Mangini is THE reason I heard of Dream Theater - I listened to Annihilator, and his work on Set The World On Fire stuck with me. Then I hear in 2017 he's touring with some band called Dream Theater, and I go see them. THAT was my intro to the band, and while I do LOVE some of the Portnoy-era albums (Images & Words for instance), I honestly love the Mangini stuff more for the most part.

To be honest, Mike is a scientific drummer. His style of play and his drumset depicts his proficiency. He carefully counts the time signature so precisely

man the drums sound so clean & alive. When i saw them live it was like he was in another room, you could barely hear any dynamic, such a shame DT never let you sound like this.

The last few tours DT's live mix has just been awful. I hope they get it right for the next one. Also, this video is awesome. Mike's flow is always amazing.

When I saw them in 2017 on the Images and Words anniversary tour, he sounded fantastic, but I was in the front row and couldn't hear Myung/Rudess/LaBrie at all during the show, lol. Great concert though. They ended with "A Change of Seasons".

Thank you, MM. This outro really stuck with me after listening to View for the first time. It's so haunting and mysterious, and had me wondering so much what direction you guys would take next. It's a beautiful piece.

Is there any chance we'll ever see drum video takes from recording sessions like what is pictured at 3:48? I'm assuming that's from the recording sessions of AVFTTOTW. I would kill to see those!

Man don’t even want to be this idiotic but the snare doesn’t sound on all the time. What’s going on? You play with such attention to detail this gives me cognitive dissonance.
@faroffgrace549015 күн бұрын
Not sure what you mean by the snare not sounding "on all the time." He's playing different subdivisions of a 23/8 measure to change the emphasis of the music. If you mean that the snare isn't being played "on" the main beat, that's a deliberate decision to give the song a unique, off-kilter groove. Apologies if I'm misunderstanding what you mean.
