Mike McCallum know for his brutal body punches, but i will never forget his left hook that he knocked out Don Curry thirty-five years ago on ITV.

He seemed to lose his KO power though when he moved up, I suppose it happens to most of them. E.G. he won his first 30 fights campaigning at light middle, 27 by KO, however when he'd eventually moved up into this division he needed to go the distance in 5 of his last 7 bouts in this weight class. Mike was a great fighter though, one of the best of the last 40 odd years.

Amazing that McCallum could beat a real tough nut like Harding in his late 30's - and at Light Heavyweight!
@marknorris138117 күн бұрын
Experience tells. McCallum fought some great fighters and had an extensive career. Harding didn't on either.

Great fight! Mike McCallum is one of the greatest of all time you can always put him right up and in there!! Jeff Harding is the king of the is the best at "Lets go down into the Basement and who ever comes out wins. Great fight and the right result. Last fight for Harding he would retire and walk away from Boxing for good. He did very well with the tool bag he had. Fitness fitness fitness was his big weapon and being HARD as iron too.

Great win for Mike McCallum. He really showed why he was one of the greatest pound per pound fighters of all-time. He really had command of the infight and with smart counterpunching. Jeff Harding was tough. He took the Jamaican best shots and kept coming. I had it 117-112 in favor of the Body Snatcher Mike McCallum. A guy that could have beaten any of the Fab 4's of boxing of Roberto Duran, Ray Leonard, Marvelous Marvin and Thomas Hearns. He was really in that class, but he couldn't get to fight with none of the Fab 4. This fight was McCallum's Last Hurrah.

Great win for Mike this one considering Mike was a champion at 154lbs

Unfortunately for Mike he didn't bring much star or drawing power to the table. He was as good as the four, he has complained at times about being avoided but basically what he wanted was a big payday fight against one of the four and in terms of the $$$ to ride on their coat tails.

Why can’t ITV buy the recordings of fights nowadays and show them a day or so after?This is how people get to know about fighters.

Harding was a very underrated fighter. Even in Australia when the discussion comes up about the country's greatest ever boxers his name very rarely comes up. This despite the fact that he only ever lost in world title fights, was never stopped, and avenged one of his only two losses.
@marknorris138117 күн бұрын
He would be the gutsiest fighter to come out of Australia. What he lacked in skill he made up for in power, heart and determination. You wonder with Tony Mundine had he had Harding's champion spirit what might have been, Tony arguably being the most skilled fighter to come out of Australia.

Don't agree with the result, commentators were bit much, saw Harding as the better FIGHTER ! Didn't think McCallum 'boxed" as claimed.
@HenriHattarАй бұрын
Harding retired after this. Imagine, this guy won on many people's crds, but retired because it was judged he lost. These commentators should have been in the ring - they may have had a different opinion then.

light heavy vs middle weight, or catch weight for McCallum? anyway, Harding is the bigger dude in there, punches must feel harder ...first time ive seen the battle ..

Mike McCallum was a gun but Jeff Harding had some problems and was a bit rusty coming into this fight after such a long layoff.But that’s boxing

Excuses, McCallum was an old man 21lbs past his best weight class.

Wtf would jeff fight Mike why
@marknorris138117 күн бұрын
Because he had to. McCallum won the interim belt due to Harding being out with injuries etc and being unable to make any defences of his title between Dec 92 and this fight in July 94. The WBC had McCallum and Yonker tee off for the interim belt - Harding had been out of action for a bit over 18 months and rather than strip Harding with McCallum winning the interim belt the WBC ordered Harding defend against McCallum at the first opportunity.
