I am 60. I personally started Mentzer's Heavy Duty program seriously six months ago. I am astonished how fast I reach the max recommended reps and have to put more weight here and there at almost every session. I have been training for years and never ever did attain such a physique and force in such a small period of time. I am so glad I finally found a method that works for a natural like me. Having that said, it makes me angry when I see those YT channels trying to debunk and ridiculise Mentzer's method, claiming it is outdated or not backed by scientific evidences. They made me loose so much time with methods that just don't work for naturals. Don't be fooled by these channels. The evidence, I see it in the mirror. Thank you so much John Little for maintaining this channel and perpetuating Mike Mentzer's legacy, a man still ahead of it's time. I am grateful.

Which routine did you follow
@americanthaiboxer72242 ай бұрын
@levihouse5345 at first the ideal routine & then eventually switched to the consolidated routine. That was over a 3 year span. Nowadays I'll do a push, pull, legs routine spacing out my rest days to 3-5. I have added more volume during the training days though.

At 55yr old male by following this program I have actually started gaining muscle like crazy and getting stronger than most men half my age.

Same experience. I will continue this type of training until my last day of training. Heavy and intense, regardless of whether most gym rats tell me I need to reduce the load and train with light weights for my age.
@arnoldh764 ай бұрын
I have been doing this for 2 months now and realized I used to do a similar style back in the day. I abandoned it because I couldn't go as heavy or as long so it made me feel inferior. I now have fell in absolute love with this style. I have quickly realized that intensity is way way more important than volume. The slow reps crush you I have seen my body respond so much better to this no joint issues no marathons at the gym and have made serious progress in such a short amount of time. I'm a true believer. If someone does this correctly slow grinding sets you will question the wasted years of endless sets you have done over the years. I am crushing my progress from volume. Life changing shit go hard and go home fr.

This makes sense on every level of nutrition in bodybuilding if you really think about it even the smallest weakest of person needs some source of fuel to be able to perform whatever exercise they are trying to perform so just think if you are trying to perform high intensity you had better have the proper nutrition to get through the workout, and you had better have good rest periods in nutrition doing your days off to recover

Good vid. Thanks. The food industry has DRASTICALLY changed since Mike recorded this. Seed oils, corn syrup, GMO foods, MSG, maltodextrin -- the list is almost endless of ingredients that destroy our health. It is becoming harder and harder to find GOOD food.

Very informative video. Ive been training the right way to failure for months, once every 5 to 8 days, but as i keep getting stronger, im not really gaining much muscle. I have a bit too much fat in the midsection and i believed Arthur Jones's theory that working till failure while on calorie deficit the body will use the fat to build new muscle. I was hoping to kill 2 birds with one stone, but im not really seeing it. Im gonna start eating 300-500 calories above maintence now and worry about fat loss after i build the desired muscle. 👍

What's your protein intake amount on a daily basis?
@mmaallday4 ай бұрын
@@teflonarmored to quote Mike Mentzer, protein is overated lol but in all seriousness i dont really count my protein intake, i just try to eat a well balanced diet, eggs, chicken, beef, pasta, rice, fish etc. Witha bit of cheating here and there. My maintance is about 2500 calories a day but im gonna up that to closer to 3000 now and see what kinda results i get.

If you follow Mike’s advice you also know that he said you will reach the limits of your genetic potential and that once that’s reached, you cannot go beyond it. And for most of us, that potential will be quite modest. “Nature is very, very stingy in doling out her gifts,” as Mike said.

but he said you can build muscle in a deficit and now he is saying you have to be in suficit in order to build muscle. How ist that now possible? That means you cant build in a deficit?
@HEAVYDUTYCOLLEGE3 ай бұрын
@@Banker.xXxXxX You can build in a deficit, but the ability to do so is a genetically mediated trait, which means the extent to which you can do this will vary between individuals. Being in a positive calorie balance, by contrast, ensures that your body has all the nutrients it needs to build muscle should it receive the stimulus to do so.
