Several bodybuilders who knew Mike during the 70s and 80s indicated that MIke was bitter for years after the 1980 Olympia. He seems to be in good spirits here while clowning around with Boyer. I hope he found peace about the Olympia contest before he died.

I got to see Mike and Boyer after the Olympia at a seminar they did together. Mike wasn’t bitter. He seemed rational that if Arnold could be that far off of his game and win, he wasn’t going to dedicate his life to competing. But, Mike continued to dedicate his life to the science of exercise. Mike also unfortunately fell victim to drug use and amphetamines. He reasoned that he could use the drug and not sleep to study and learn. He unfortunately had multiple psychotic episodes from the combination of lack of sleep and the drug use that landed him in the hospital. Later in life Mike suffered from heart issues and depression. He was an incredibly intelligent, caring and giving person. He was my trainer in the early 90’s. To this day, if I was asked “what bodybuilder would you want to look like?” Hands down, Mike. Over Arnold, Dorian, Lee or Ronnie. All great bodybuilders but, Mike had a “Herculean” look to his physique. He had a graininess. Mike will always be my idol. I was lucky to have known him just a little. He was a gentleman. He was quiet and well spoken. He had a dry humor. His legacy lives on thru great videos like these. What a treasure John has shared with us. Thank you!

I read an interview article recently in which Mike told the interviewer that at his peak he only had 18.5" arms. Everybody thought he had 20's because of how big he looked next to guys claiming 20" arms. Turns out that most of those guys back then were measuring pumped and Mike always measured cold. Arnold claimed 22.5" arms but he only measured cold at 19.5". Franco claimed 18.5" but Mike dwarfed him, so he must have been inflating his numbers as well.

not sure where you get all your stats...but you never mentioned off season size vs contest size... i remember 40 plus years ago they had a picture of arnolds bicep in our gym ..it was actual size and said 22 1/4'' and looked massive ...it seemed legit since wrist size was same as mine... most all bodybuilders gave their pumped up tape measurement...but again bulked up Arnold was around 260lbs with the 22 inch arm pumped... and for contest all measurements vary depending on contest weight... i agree in a contest arnolds arm could have been under 20... but no one really knows exact arm sizes since everyone does exaggerate...also arnold and many bodybuilders have huge peaks that adds an extra inch...but who really cares...

“I remember, Boyer Coe stood up as a gentleman, and said hey let’s all just listen to what Arnold is saying on why he wants two weight divisions instead of mindlessly arguing all the time, and then Arnold snapped at Boyer and said ‘oh Boyer grow up and stop acting like a baby’ then is stood up for Boyer and told Arnold that he did not deserved that, that it was uncalled for and Boyer was being a gentleman he didn’t deserve that. Then Arnold stood up with his lip hurled up growling like an animal and said ‘oh come on Mentzer we all know you lost last year because of your big belly’ and I allowed that to irritate me a bit too much I ran towards him and for my surprise he sat down, he went for acting like an adolescent to a calm boy, he sat down I scared him” Mike Mentzer. You know is awesome how he stood up for his friend Boyer, apparently Mike didn’t care about the 2 weight division argument he just got into the heat with Arnold because he insulted his friend. And you can see how Boyer and Mike would be friends, they were both honourable men and both gentlemen, Boyer wanted to deescalate and Arnold didn’t like that because of his big ass Nazi ego, so Mike stood up for his friend.

Hi Mike, not to my knowledge. They were filmed, but I believe they were kept in house at the Nautilus Studios. However, Arthur lost interest in the project after about three months, and everything kind of petered out.

What’s the point of this video did I miss something?
@psychologixselfmastery3 жыл бұрын
It looks like neurological adaptation was resulting in strength gains and not size gains. In 82 and 83 Boyer was off steroids, so he was probably at his natural limit at this stage so he could gain either no muscle or very small amounts of muscle whereas Casey Viator had been recovering from a serious infection and so he was way underweight and basically he was playing catch up in the Colorado Experiment.
