My local gym has some of it but it's the 90's Nautilus versions. The 70s and 80s versions were better. Chain gyms carry shit equipment. Look for a local gym that has functional biomechanical equipment. Mine has the best machines from the last 35 years to the present. The machines at my gym are only seen in chain gyms where one extra 'ole skool' version of something survives here and there in spotty locations.

@HEAVYDUTYCOLLEGE3 күн бұрын
Because this was filmed in 1983 - 17 years before Mike wrote "Muscles in Minutes," which is the first book in which he mentioned using the 4-2-4 cadence. He hadn't even revised the Heavy Duty theory until 1992.

40* Chest Shoulder 11 reps in 37 seconds = 3.4 seconds per rep. Not exactly the protocol that Arthur was promoting (up 2, pause 1, lower 4 = 7 seconds per rep) but intensity still looked good. The risk of injury was unnecessarily high during these exercises because of a lack of awareness of the risk. Throwing weight instead of lifting it is a hard habit to break.

interesting to me that he said 'aiming for 10 reps' and then he doesn't tell Boyer to slow down. I'm thinking that it is a tad later where Mentzer shifted moreso to slightly slower reps and just going to complete failure(?). That vid where he's training Marcus somethingorother, Mentzer looks a tad older in the latter vid.
@HEAVYDUTYCOLLEGE5 ай бұрын
This video was shot in 1983. The one with Markus Reinhardt was shot in 2001. You are correct in that Mike believed in a slower, more controlled protocol later on. He started implementing this belief in the mid 1990s. In this video he is supervising Boyer’s workout according to the guidelines that Arthur Jones wanted Boyer to use.

what would warmup be for this workout? in mentzers optimal routine he had clients doing 2 warmup sets, so wonderind how he "warms" up the full body for this.
@HEAVYDUTYCOLLEGE24 күн бұрын
Back in the Nautilus days, the warm-up was built into each set, given that the reps leading up to momentary muscular failure were submaximal, so each successive rep warmed up the muscle more. They didn’t do a separate warm-up routine. Once the body temperature was raised and blood was circulating throughout the body, they felt sufficiently warmed up to proceed through the workout.

@@NewDaySon37 my gym did replace everything with mediocre 'technogym' equipment. But some of it is plate loaded, and the plate loaded stuff is good. There is a more 'modestly' set up plate loaded kickback, and I've actually used it a bit with the hopes it might help some lower back/upper butt type nerve issues. I"m not sure if it's helping.
