this was such a great time for freestyle. before it turned into bmx. dont get me wrong the tricks they do now are sick as fuck but this era freestyle mx was its own entity.

I dunno man when the backflip was controversially "landed" first done by carey hart the sport pushed so hard for backflips. To the point where we lost Mad Mike Jones, Clifford adoptante, Dane Kinnard, Luke Urek And all those other guys who couldnt afford foam pits for backflip practice. If you went to a 2002 to 2005 x games all you saw was really sketchy backflips and it was less actual style and ingenuity. It stalemated the whole sport for a good 4 years

I agree, although as we know what an era and energy was back then is what inspires the likes of tom pages today! ⚡️🗿

The godfather of freestyle!! Fucking lunatic!! No other riders have the skill and balls to have such a sketchy landing and just say fuck it and wip out another huge truck right after! Metzger is a mad man!!

After that last crash he got up and walked on a screwed up leg and upstairs longer than some people do walk on a whole day.

Mike was the best to watch. You never knew how crazy he was going to get as you could tell he was doing a lot of it in the moment. It didn’t always work out but when it did it was brilliant. Nowadays they are so surgical with their tricks it’s just not as fun to watch. Nothing but respect for the new guys tho
