Portnoy was an ispiration to The Rev, he said it. The Rev wrote the whole drums tracks on Nightmare's album but didn't recorded it officially; the members of Avenged Sevenfold decided to call Mike Portnoy to record the album because he was The Rev's inspiration since he was like 10 years old! Portnoy were glad to record the album and play the entire gig of the Nightmare's Album, until Avenged Sevenfold found another drummer.. Officially Portnoy never was a member of Avenged Sevenfold. By the way, Portnoy, The Rev and Avenged Sevenfold are fucking GREAT!

It's funny cause when Brooks joined Bad Religion, they were in the same situation A7X is in now. Their albums were pretty generic, almost monotonous to be honest. Then Brooks "revived" them with his crazy speed and skills. Since then they've been a lot more aggressive, just like during their glory days in the 80s. Hopefully he has the same effect on A7X. AlexJasso100 No offence to the Rev, but this song is pretty damn easy (almost easy heh). Fills Portnoy plays in this video are actually more difficult than the record's ones
@AlexJasso1009 жыл бұрын
You must not play drums, b/c the fills MP is playing are much easier than the ones in the original song. You are right that they aren't difficult but they are more difficult than what MP is playing only because The Rev added double bass under a lot of his fills. For example in the song Demons right before each chorus you can clearly hear that he plays this fill where he blasts the snare and some toms, and underneath it all you hear the double bass which gives it a unique sound. That is more difficult than it sounds and it's something MP doesn't do. MP would play something like this RLBBRLRLRLBBRLRLB.
@THEyt10969 жыл бұрын
AlexJasso100 Before you accuse me of not being a drummer... I am a drummer. Can play both of these guys' stuff... The Rev NEEDED to add kicks under his hands on fills because it helps create depth, but also covers slop. To add kicks to rolls, like Portnoy... adds depth & dimension. We are really arguing a point that doesn't matter... but it does prove a couple of things. Jimmy fans did not ever accept that Portnoy was a FAR superior addition to A7X... Which is too bad. They are still loyal to Jimmy, which says a lot. But... If you loved a $20 bill... and suddenly someone gave you a $100 bill... Would you still say your $20 bill is better?
@xSuLFaTEx9 жыл бұрын

demasiada buena la ejecucion de portnoy aqui es que se escucha tan solido claro y preciso que da ganas de imitar su estilo de tocar!

@SuperKinghaze That's not the Rev's drum kit. The Rev played D.W and Mike plays Tama which is what this kit is.

Sansan Jea lol, I LOVE the ref and I'll tell you right now that that statement isn't true. The rev looked up to portnoy. Portnoy had many more years of experience than the rev. I'm not downing the rev in any way, they're both amazing drummers so why compare them in the first place?

To answer all of the arguments regarding Mike Portnoy and The Rev on who was a better drummer, who had better fills; just read what I have to say: Mike Portnoy was the Rev's drumming icon, just like Neil Peart was/is Mike's drumming icon. When the Rev died, and Mike subbed for him, Mike LITERALLY said he was going to play each song part for part out of respect for the Rev. They're both great drummers as far as I'm concerned. Thumbs up so people can see!!
