Jail in many ways is worse than prison. In jail you get a hodgepodge of people and the way they are managed is different than an actual prison. Prison once had more rehabilitation but then the public was upset that inmates had better educational opportunities than free people and of course with tax payers dollars. I can see both side but I know a person has a better chance at not reoffending if they can secure work upon release. They do have programs in prison but most are not interested. It’s a very tough job also dealing with inmates so you’re not going to get your best and brightest working there for state wages, which are normally low.

14 months isnt extreme when i was there there were guys in jail fighting the case for 5 years, 4 years, and one guy 2 years who says hes innocent

Ironically Prison is for the institutionalized. My uncle spent his entire life in prison (for good reason). For some reason they keep letting him out, but he keeps repeat offending and going back in. He has spent about 33+ years locked up. Stays out less than 1 year each time he has been released.

60 year old Brit: California jails and 2 felony convictions (strikes) didn’t teach me shit, except how to steal motorcycles and a recipe for cooking meth (first time in OCJ). I couldn’t learn anything bc my childhood rendered me unreachable and unteachable. Penal incarceration doesn’t change that; I’m convinced warehousing humanity just makes people meaner and more resentful. If it “worked”, recidivism rates would be low, not high.
