I think people were taken by surprise that Mike Rhyner came out of retirement and reacted poorly. He was barely a participant in the show at the end of his run and the Ticket and retirement seemed fitting. No one should be surprised by the secrecy. This is the same man that basically retired months before it was announced.

Screw the ticket! They jumped the shark when Rhyner retired. Stopped listening to them after 25 year, two years ago and went to SiriousXM. Slowly I’ve started being a Freaker. Today I listened to Mike talk about their one year anniversary. Can’t tell you the name of the guy he’s paired with but in Mike’s classic words “this guy sucks…” or “5,4,3,2 annnnd you’re done.” Eventually the Freak will hit their stride with all the neglected Ticket talent now there. Look for Doocy to come in the fold when he finally wises up that Fox4 is done with him. More Danny, more Jules, more Surious and Grubes. Let’s get this thing really rolling and shut the mouths of all the arrogant on air “talent” at 1310. Especially the no talent glorified yuck monkey dolphin laugher. He owes his career to Mike and all he could do was bash him a year ago. Let’s step up the awareness campaign Freak. Splatter more billboards with Mike’s face, Julie, Danny, Surious, I’m a 60 year old Freaker-LET’S GO! The coveted 25-54 demo will follow. And for God’s sake MORE GREGGO!!

I like Mike. I loved him on the Ticket. I listened to the Freak from time to time. However, I think part of his argument is disingenuous. He is absolutely right. He did not break any rule. He did not owe the Ticket anything. That is all and good, except he then says some of the guys at the Ticket are his closest friends. If he really believed he was doing nothing wrong, and these are his closest friends, why hide that he was going to do this?

I think the Ticket has become too corporate, the station has changed from its original content. The Musers are the the only show in my view that still makes the Ticket good. I think the fact that it has sold multiple times to multiple corporations has watered it down. I see the day when their talent will be reprised on 971 the freak, Ryhner seems to be a serial entrepreneur, he cannot be held back!

I’ve met Mike on several occasions. I have to deal with him fairly often. Not a good dude at all. He has a real ego and loves to thumb his nose at his fans. Goes out of his way to be aloof. His act gets old real quick when you deal with him in person. Danny is a great guy. I would have listened to their afternoon show but since Danny left I’m 100 percent out.

That “I didn’t plan to get back into the game” stance feels like horse shit. 2:35 If he did change his mind, why not return to The Ticket? Or at least, why not tell the guy, “Thanks for thinking of me, but no.”. It is absolute treason to attempt to compete with The Ticket. If he wanted to start his own podcast or work in radio that wasn’t sports related (not competing with a similar audience as The Ticket), that’s fine. But to be part of a new direct competitor start up, sends a message loud and clear. That message to me is that Rhyner retired because he was tired of the BS over there. His show went a direction he didn’t like. We could tell for several years that Mike was less and less engaged, less enthusiastic. He started sounding like a bored passenger a lot of the time. It sounded often that he couldn’t control Corby and Danny. He also didn’t want to make demands, because if he did, he could have walked into Cats office and said them or me. Then Danny and Sirois show up at The Freak. You see how long that lasted. I have no problem with Mike working at The Freak. He can do whatever he wants. Just don’t mislead people. The Freak is destined to fail. No timeframe on that, but it’s inevitable. There’s only a couple of people over there who are worth listening to. Mike being one of them.

Why are P1s pissed? Because he announced his retirement then came back almost immediately to a competitor in the same market and now he's airing everyone's dirty laundry with an FU attitude. Julie is great, I love her on air but she's a footnote on the ticket history book (with all due respect). Sirois is greatness, he imo was and still is the most underrated personality ever on the lil ticket. He never got his due after grinding for almost 2 decades and was shown the door at the peak of his popularity and influence, for what? For an old geezer who misses the air half the time anyway? Donnie and Siroi were GOLD on the air. That was quickly becoming my favorite time slot. They meshed so well. Rhyner is butt hurt that's all I get from this. I understand that as the godfather of the station he is entitled to his POV but it just comes off as shady to me. Yes, we are all interested but why throw away 25 years of friendships over some stupid ego bullshit. Let it go and move on and keep personal matters to yourself because it's nobody's business. Regardless of what "I want" there should be a more professional attitude towards the situation.

Mike admits to creating mentality where he can’t understand it. As I’ve got a minute before he needs to work on empathy. I want to like him still and I said hi to him at the Ranger game a couple weeks ago, but then the next day I turn on the freak and they’re bashing Their old friends. And I understand why Corby and those guys were hurt because there’s a listener I felt some of that. It’s called awareness and having feelings. I know I had to be secretive but if you’re gray wolf it’s simply ask those guys out to lunch just told them ahead of time and then not been so angry on the air and claimed to have started the ticket when Spence Kendrick did that, it would’ve been different. As I said I want to like him in the others because the ticket has helped me through several serious bouts of dark depression and kept me going.

With streaming and on demand available I can listen to all of my favorite Ticket personalities again and it's great. The thing that bothers me is the way he went out. That "retirement" video came out of nowhere.. I was shocked and saddened by it (as I'm sure a lot of others were as well). He made it seem like it was over, and he needed to move on to the next part of his life (and that didn't include another radio gig). He is a grown man, and an icon when it comes to sports radio, so he is free to do what he wants, but for him to pop back up, and do local radio again, after just walking away the way he did. It just leaves a bad taste in a lot of ppls mouths.
