My son was (still is) a huge tank enthusiast growing up. He had his dinosaur phase, like most kids, but grew out of it into tanks... and never, ever, grew out of that phase. He couldn't tell me who won at Agincourt, but would whip out the milimeter thickness of the driver side right flank armor plate of the 3rd variant of a particular tank that served in 42-43 but was discontinued while the next upgrade had 5 more millimeters of armor to that location. Imagine my... exasperation trying to get him through high school. But. for his 18th Birthday, we took him to Tank Town, and he had the time of his life. They were awesome. He loved EVERY minute. And he's had that same T-Shirt *My thereapist is a Tank" for at least 7 years now, and it''ll be threadbare and moth eaten well before the smile on his face fades from his experience there One of the best moments of his life, better than a "disney" trip, honestly, and they were so awesome at Tank Town for him. ... The mud makes it look more fun, no lie.

Yup.... having spent years driving a 113A3 over everything or through everything- in front of me as fast as I could...it is a LOT of fun. Power brake it to spool the turbo...and hold on. Don't be afraid to get it airborne... I wasn't. Yea- I spent plenty of hours replacing broken track / road wheels / and an occasional shock. If I ever win the lottery- I'm buying my own.

It is a APC because, as the names says, designed to transport personnel across the battlefield. Just to protect personnel from shrapnel and gunfire up to about 20mm. There are APC's with big guns on it, not always good idea. Because the driver and gunner have tendency to start acting like it is a tank when they got a big gun. Which is very problematic when you have 5 to 7 soldiers in it and it is hit by a RPG or a AT-round. A tank will never have space to transport troops.

@@F-16fightingFalcon The M113 is built out of aluminum and only generally weighs around 10 tons. Tanks weigh 4 to 5 times as much. The aluminum hull can generally withstand rifle rounds, but a 50cal can penetrate. Anything shot from a 'big' gun will destroy an APC. They were designed to move a 10 man squad of infantry into forward lines at a fast pace, usually armed with either twin .30's or a single .50. Some had turrets with 'big' guns, but I never got to drive one of those in my career. Lots of fun though!

a tank by definition has a direct fire main weapon and a coaxial machinegun.. that second thing is weirdly key. thats why mobile artillery, even in fully traversable turrets isnt a tank.

When I was doing my M113 drivers course back in 1977, we had found a location in the bush with a half dozen abandoned vehicles. Needless to say, they suffered the same fate of the cars in this video, until we found a car a few hundred yards away. As we approached this vehicle getting ready to flatten it, a young couple quickly climbed out trying to throw on some clothes. Very embarrassed, but also but still alive, they sheepishly drove back to town in their undamaged car.

I did something similar back in the day with a Microsoft Office demo CD and a drill. When I got a blue screen, the CD got a few more holes in it. Once a friend of mine came over to borrow the drill and was a lot calmer when he left. Creative, controlled destruction is always therapeutic.

Hey, Mike? I just wanted to thank you for giving me some of the greatest advice I ever received in my life. Not directly, of course... you were giving the keynote speech at the 2010 Jamboree (which, side note, had been rescheduled specifically to coincide with BSA's 100th anniversary). A scout is clean, but not afraid to get dirty... been living by that ever since. I made eagle just under 6 years later, and while my career hasn't been the most stable or glamorous, those words remind me not to be afraid to get my boots dirty on a daily basis. APCs are designed to transport infantry into battle, while tanks are classified as armored fighting vehicles. Tanks have BIG guns on top.

When I was in the Army stationed at Fort Bliss, I was in the 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment and we had M1A2 tanks. Many car thieves abandoned stolen cars in the desert after stripping them for parts. It was sort of a thing for tank drivers to flatten those cars. That was in the mid-80's.

Good old 432, still has the Rolls-Royce K60 engine in it. Used to work on these vehicles every day. Fun fact- it's a 6 cylinder engine but has 12 pistons.

About 1:37: Did this in 2007 in Winchester, UK. Rolled over a car with a British Chieftain MBT. Had a major blast (emotionally...). Highly recommended, especially if you're tired of the daily grind to/from work. I paid extra to get a video of it.
