I have written uncomplimentary things about Mike's talent; but DEFINITELY, Mike is bullied or the punching bag of the staff. It is like a fraternity that invites the oddball to their house for a party, as a goof that all the brothers are in on. Love Artie to death, but he initiates it and everybody jumps in like a ganggong.He carried it to the second show, Halfway House. Then again, without Artie, Mike would be unemployed and no one would know whom he is. I do not know (no poll taken) how much of the general population know who Artie is (2 bestsellers, though).
@noahschmartz23544 жыл бұрын
In fairness I think Arties issue is not with Mikes talent but more with his approach to developing his talent ie. his attrocious laziness, poor attitude to research , his refusal to take artistic advice from anyone who truly cares about him.

Comedy is over when you can't even good-naturedly rib someone like they did with Mike. Guys like Stern, etc, sometimes went way over the line with unique people like Mike. Totally degraded them in every disgusting way. On this show, they busted Mike's chops, but it never felt malicious or from a bad place. It always highlighted how naturally funny and entertaining Mike was. It felt like friends joking with each other, and you always got the feeling Artie really cared about Mike. My God. The weather segment alone is some of the funniest stuff ever. What a forum he had that people loved him in. Pathetic that a comic of any level, especially one in the business so long doesn't get that. If he had an agent, they might have been able to convey to him how important to his career that is. He's like a pro wrestler that believes it's real and is mad that he doesn't "win" all of the time instead of recognizing that what matters most is drawing fans and playing your role and helping the promotion succeed because then EVERYONE wins and makes money and moves ahead career-wise. Awful. It seems like the great performers in anything are able to separate the entertainment from real life. Not sure how he's been doing stand up so long. Crowds must be a lot nicer than we give them credit for.

I think it's different with Mike than the Wack Pack in general. Not only is Mike way more there than the majority of them, he's been known to a lot of people for decades. He's an actual personal friend of Artie and a lot of comedians. It's different than Beetlejuice or Gary who come on for the attention and the money. If it really hurt them they wouldn't of kept coming on. Non of them were so gone that they keep touching a hot stove after it's burned them. Mike is a friend though, not a paid segment.

@@alo4912 absoultely. I imagine mike growing up found people that would let him hang out with them, with the implicit understanding he would be mocked the whole time...It always hurts a little....but to always be mocked and treated like a lower class must have been really tough on him...

Mike lets Artie off the hook by not holding his feet to the fire; that letter was directed towards him. Artie should have recognized that his jokes could be hurtful, but reassure Mike that that’s not his intention. It’s a bit, he likes Mike, cares for him in fact, but it’s a bit that works. Point out how ridiculous a fat , ugly guy poking fun of another guy’s weight or looks is inherently funny. Mike was feeling insecure about his relationship with Artie, but unfortunately, reassurance wasn’t had.
@mistersippi29453 жыл бұрын
I think his letter was towards people on social media. They know Mike freaks out over the smallest thing, and he’s addicted to Twitter, and the like, so people screw with him. He thinks that’s “bullying”, and that’s why he can’t get an agent or gigs. Truth is Mike thinks he deserves Artie’s level of fame, and money. He had an agent people said was great, and was getting him gigs, but Mike wanted to make millions, and appear in big movies. He felt slighted, and that his agent wasn’t good because he wasn’t being given high-profile roles. He doesn’t realize that it’s his fault. He fired that agent, insulted him, and didn’t show up to gigs he had promised he’d take. His reasoning was “They never hire me, so why should I bust my butt for them, when they hire me?”. He’s really obnoxious, and thinks he’s a household name.
