Hi Mike; thanks for this; in my opinion, the judges must start awarding maximum terms in jail = DETERRENT SENTENCES. If children are doing adult crime, award them adult sentences in youth facilities; The courts must be a place where the guilty fear the worst & if you are guilty there will be NO EXCUSES: NO TOLERANCE: NO MERCY. NZ is becoming a ghetto because sandal slapping, do-gooder judges believe in supporting the victims. Build more jails; get the ctims off our streets. NZ citizens do not want crime riddled communities.

Discipline starts at home. Where are the parents to administer consequences for this? Stronger sentencing alone cant stop it, and could actually aggravate it in some cases. More prisons aren't the answer, and neither is 3 strikes. Need proof? Look at the U.S. It does NOT work.

Mike is quite correct new Zealand is a third world country when it comes to law and disorder. I am totally disappointed in the way crine is being tackled by not only the government but our judges . It is unbelievable thst we have arrived in the world as a crime capital. Yet very little is being done to reset the tone over criminal😮 behavior 🤔 🙄 😒 😅

It's been a Third World country for some time - law and order, education, healthcare etc. Who in their right mind would visit NZ as a holiday destination -unless they are on some cruise ship itinerary? Go to Canada or SE Asia instead. The biggest concern though, is, who would would want to emigrate to here??

I got attacked by few people in hawkes bay around 9pm. They jumped in straight away and punched me and broke my car. Got no idea how i could escape from them. They seemed like high on meth and they were holding beer bottles. Nz is a safe country only in google not in reality.

The 18 year old from the petrol station will have a court appointed lawyer ( gravy train) who will spit out a sob story on how hard done by the 18 year olds life has been and a pathetic excuse for a judge will ignore the hard done by petrol station attendant who is just trying to improve his lot in life 50 cents at a time and Gift the thug a sympathetic sentence.
