If we have the time you can open up your sieve and combine out all the weed spots as you are doing and it grinds it up so fine where a disk cant
@erikligtenberg12563 жыл бұрын
Lets be clear, this is not the normal way to do this, most canadians would use a bushhog. Wouldn't be my first choice to use a $800,000 combine and header to cut weeds. but I guess its not necessarily dumb if it works.
@rayanderson41193 жыл бұрын
A couple thoughts on this. 1) What's in the grain tank when you're done? 2) By sending the cattails through the chopper, aren't you helping spread the fuzzy seeds even more? 3) It seems risky to use such an expensive machine for this task. Wouldn't the swather be a better implement and allow you to burn it easier? I mean, you were talking about dropping a windrow if it was going to plug anyway.... Thanks for great videos. Enjoy them a lot.
@rayanderson41193 жыл бұрын
Never mind 1). You just answered it.

I cut and bale that stuff for cow bedding if I have time at the end of the year. And then I just sell some of my straw bales. Cattail bedding is terrible for in barns because it’s terrible dusty but for outside it’s fine as long as you know which way the wind is blowing.

Mike I got some questions… 1. What is the correct settings for a combine to harvest cat tails and weeds. 2. What was the bushel an acre you where getting when harvesting 3. What is the current market of cat tails. Seems like it would be a good market little amount of competition
@davidlogel23503 жыл бұрын
Took on a quarter 5 years ago. First year seeded 78 acres on it. This year seeded 160. You can’t gain flooded out acres back if you don’t try to.

the question is: what grain came out of the combine after this harvest. here in brazil we would never walk in the middle of the grass, snakes love fields with tall grass.
@mikeznel60483 жыл бұрын
None. The seeds are way too small and the machine needs to be set up for the small seeds.
@syndicateleader63963 жыл бұрын
@@mikeznel6048 as Mike Znel said none. He tells us in the video that he opens up the concaves by 50% which will just let everything go through the combine then get chopped up at the back by the knives and then shot out the back. Nothing gets threshed or sifted. Just goes straight through

Need to go buy a old smaller swather for doing sloughs. Combine works until you find a old stone pile in a slough and write your header off.

@sammurphy54542 жыл бұрын
You guys should look at diamond harrows like Kelly tillage has. We use them alot here in Australia, and they would turn those cattails into a level seedbed in one pass, and they are very hard to block up. We usually run them at about 12km/hr, but I know people who run them at 14-15km/hr, and they make a 24.3metre model... You guys could cover some country fast with a few of these! They are a light shallow tillage too, so they have good moisture preservation and don't disrupt the soil structure at medium to deep depths, but get around a 90% kill rate at worst, and break up rodent nests as well
@Oliver-kv2mm3 жыл бұрын
