When that tractor went up for auction at Mecum it reminded me of the same tractor I would see parked along the Fresno County roads when I was a boy. Once I heard it’s story it was one and the same tractor. When the county would do road repairs near our house I would ride my bike to where it was parked and sit on it pretending to drive it, really fun times. The county yard where the equipment was kept is on Del Rey avenue just south west of the town of Sanger California. It was usually hooked to a hard rubber tired packer and all it did was drive up and down the road turning around packing the asphalt repairs. I remember it having Firestone field and road tires, 23.1x26 or 30, and a set of Firestone diamond tread at one time. If the county ordered it from the local John Deere dealer, Fresno Equipment, probably my friend Sam Pallesi did the deal. He was the go to guy for Ag and special order equipment. He was the guy who convinced JD corporate to build a low pro 4320 for the local tree fruit farmers. It had factory down exhaust, a swept back front axle and ROPS delete. Anyway really cool to see an old friend again. Farmer Ken in California
