They had the wizard in question as one of the characters hiring them for sidequests later on. He was a deity level mage who would constantly fire off randomized spells, or alter reality in strange ways just for kicks. He once bragged "a day is really 36 hours long, but I shortened it to 24 so everyone has to rush around to get anything done". Kind of explains a lot doesn't it?
