If it makes you feel better, Brent Spiner recently said on a podcast that Shatner got very angry and offended at him through Twitter DMs over some sort of blocking incident. Spiner was mortified at his reaction, and immediatelly called up Shatner to apologize, but when Shatner answered the phone, he was just confused and had no idea what Spiner was talking about.

He's from a different era. I loooove Peter O'Toole's over-the-top Shakespearean style of acting. Everything is projected for the back row. And the DRAMA. The EMOTION. It works especially best in comedies like What's New, Pussycat? Shatter reminds me of that. If you are always acting like you're in a Shakespearean drama, it's going to come off as melodramatic at times. Which isn't a bad thing, because it's hilarious. But when those dramatic notes hit, by god, they really hit.

I presume he was a nerdy kid, in the times before being nerdy was cool, Star Trek etc was his getaway and he looked up to characters like Kirk as inspiration and role models. As a nerdy kid who has experienced bullying, Growing up one day and witnessing my icon making fun of me would be my biggest nightmare. @@acomatosemob i don't see this as "rabid fanaticism" (i don't think anyone's been "yelling" at him). you can blame Shatner's behaviour partly on his age, but he's always been kind of a dick, and it gets a reaction. it always surprised me that he and Nimoy were such good friends as lots of TOS cast and crew had plenty of stories about him. i haven't got an axe to grind, i just took in a lot of information when i was younger. the cast all have their autobiographies, it's all out there. for the record, it never changed my view of him as an actor and he is absolutely superb in Wraith of Khan.

The difference between Shatner and Stewart, is that Shatner didn't really have much success outside of Star Trek. I think Patrick Stewart would just remember all of the other stuff he's been in, brush it off, and have a laugh. With Shatner, ANY denigration of his time on Star Trek is a denigration of his entire acting career (at least the only part anyone remembers), so he takes it way more personally.

Don't equate your love of a story/franchise or T.V. show with the actors performing in it, you will be disappointed. Not really - they're a bunch of middle-aged people watching and talking about movies and Star Trek. What is hard is convincing someone the appeal of it. Hell, the only reason why I got into them was because KZbin autoplayed a Half in a Bag episode after I completed Mr. Plinket's Star Wars prequels reviews. I was about to click off, but when I saw that the Mr Plinket story arc was continuing, I stuck around.

I've since learned that in response to this video, Shatner wrote a long meandering Medium post called 'The Toxic Empires of Egoligarchies', where he digs through tons of RLM fan tweets in detail, screenshotting and posting in what was presumably hours of work, but admits to not having even watched this video at all. Shatner is a world class troll, it's pretty impressive.
