The singer is “The man with the golden voice” Paul Carrack. The guitarist is “Mike” Mike Rutherford. This is one of my absolute favorite songs. So beautiful and meaningful. I had just married my hubby. Together 35 years. He passed 2 years ago. Love hearing this always. This song reminds me of those first years.

I was lucky...my dad died 6 years ago this week. I got to tell him I loved him on that last night. He was too weak to even talk from the effects of the cancer, but he knew. When we found out about his illness, and that it was terminal he told me he was proud of me. Nothing left unsaid between us. But, still, I miss him dearly.

the original video came out when I was in high school, in 1988. Mike Rutherford of Mike and the Mechanics is also a founding member of Genisis and is a guitar LEGEND! Mike and the Mechanics was a different type of band during the 80's , they were a bit deeper than the usual. for a very deep one, listen to Mike and the Mechanics, Silent Running., very very thought-provoking.

I've always loved this song. It always brings tears to my eyes because I remember the relationship with my natural father (or lack thereof). I missed mom's passing. She was in the hospital where I worked and a nurse friend called to tell me of her passing. I was off, getting my vehicle serviced and was going to the hospital afterwards. 4 years ago when dad passed, I was there to the end. The last thing I said to him while he could still speak was I love you. We had had our differences over the years, but the last 10 I was his caregiver. The last 4 days were the worst, but I would not change a thing.

Now that I've lost both parents, this song gets me every time. I never had a problem talking to them, but I still wish I had told them more often how I felt, especially towards the end. So it's not just about making sure you tell them how you feel while they're still here, it's also the amount you tell them; because when their health starts to fail, they need to hear it more. It also gets me when he says he wasn't there when his father passed. One thing people may not realize, is that it's emotionally exhausting when the doctors tell you the end is near, so it can be really hard just to get up every morning. But it's important to be there for them towards the end, because it's even more scary for them and they need you.

Just found your channel and subscribed! This is one of my favorite songs from the late 1980's. I had a falling out with my father, and the first time I heard this song, I knew I had to make things right with my dad. We were best friends up until the time I left my hometown...when we had a falling out. When I moved back to my hometown...the first thing I did was apologize to my dad for being such an A.H. I am glad I set things right with him. He passed on March 1st ,9 years ago, from a sudden heart attack at 80 years old. I am 62 now, and this song still brings a year to my eyes!! I would encourage anyone who has unresolved issues with family members to make things right.

I have this one on my playlist entitled 'for Chez' named for a host of a podcast I used to love listening to who died suddenly from an OD. The lines from "I wasn't there that morning" to "My babies newborn tears" make me tear up every time I listen to their song. I'm usually sobbing out loud by that last line. they are both about stupidity, bad blood and regret for failures. This ones about clearing up the bad blood and misunderstandings before its too late. One of the very few songs that looks at the complex Father Son relationship. Cat Stevens Father to Son is another song to do the same is Church by Mike Skinner (the Street) its raw and strangely haunting..
