It actually makes my teary eyed as an Angels fan. It feels like an injustice to the baseball world. I was 11 when he debuted and I looked up to Mike during the most formative years of my life. Even when the team was bad, if Trouty was playing we had something to look forward to. I really hope he has a couple more full seasons left in him

Weird to think about how now if you were to chose between mike trout's career or Harper's career I can see many going for Harper's probably cuz of health and post season success. Where like 2019 I believe most people would have taken mike's overall career up to that point.

Only because of recency bias probably. After both are retired, Trout will be remembered as the better player. Guys like Frank Thomas, Ken Griffey Jr., Larry Walker, etc. didn’t have much postseason success either, but no one really cares anymore.

Trout is completely finished. He will play few if any games. Those big dudes can have problems as they get older. 40mm a yr. Wow. They are stuck with him.

As an Angels fan, can I just say they could double that number and I’d be fine with it. He’s the best thing to happen to baseball in Anaheim since 2002 and part of the reason so many kids in SoCal care more about baseball than they would otherwise

Skenes is pitching out of his mind but if he finishes the year with 130-140 IP, even if his ERA doesn’t move at all from 1.93, he won’t win the Cy Young. Innings matter and, yeah, it isn’t his fault that he didn’t start the year in the majors, but voters wont pick him if there’s a guy with 180 IP and a 2.3. Degrom came in like 9th in 2021 when he pitched 92 innings, struck out 150, and had a .9 ERA.
@dereklee8103
@dereklee8103 Ай бұрын
I get that, but your 180 IP example, would you take 2023 Snell over 2024 Skenes? Personally I'd go Skenes if he does what he's been doing over 140 IP
@henrythomas2409
@henrythomas2409 Ай бұрын
@@dereklee8103 I'd probably need the full numbers. But a Skenes 1.93 and 140 IP versus Snell 180 IP and 2.25? I may still go Snell (again, I'd need full peripherals and whatnot). But 40 innings is 6-7 starts. If the best ability is availability, and you're available for 6-7 more starts than the other guy and still pitching to a near league best ERA? Yeah youre probably more valuable in my book

Same story with Trout and Rendon every year, too bad. Pull a similar move to Harper on the Phillies and platoon the two them at DH and third. The aging stars who can still hit, protect their health a la Buxton

I dont disagree that Trout is one of the best players in our generation but to say “he’s done a lot for the game” is kinda crazy. There’s like 10 active guys that have done more than him for the game of baseball and that’s just off the top of my head. He really hasn’t used his stardom for good he just keeps to himself and stays out of the playoffs. He won’t really be missed as much as other veterans when he leaves

Mike Trout could retire today and still be an easy Hall of Famer to anyone who's remotely objective. The man has 86 bWAR & 85 fWAR as it stands. Plenty of HoFers in there now haven't done what Trout has done, already. Anything he does beyond this is icing on the cake. The real sad part is we may not see him hit that 500th homer.

Angels had a real opportunity to make the playoffs this year and Trout couldn't stay uninjured. The team has rallied around Ron and they are playing way above their level hoping that he was going to come back 100% guarantee this is going to tank their morale and they will end on a strong decline. The Trout Effect.

Yeah. I have watched every inning of Skenes this year. I need to go back and watch more Sale and Wheeler before I say what I am feeling. But he just looks super dominant between the strikeouts, pitches that make MLB batters look silly and the weak contact. Seems like every one of the home runs he's given up has been first batter of the inning, first pitch. I agree that innings do matter...when they're quality innings and they keep your team in the game. I can't remember Skenes having a bad inning. On the other hand, I know Sale has had innings that his ineffectiveness put the game out of reach for Atlanta.

@@BT1919 from what I can see it feels like Chris is just falling into the easy narrative that the A’s just trade all of their players. While that has happened consistently for the last 5 years or so, it’s obvious that this shitty A’s ownership wants to have some shiny players to debut in Vegas. I never said he was wrong, just wish he took more of a genuine approach
