@Ffeoli10392 жыл бұрын
@@biggiewhite same exact count. The ref is not bound by the time keeper's count and is the authority in the ring. Refs usually give fighters the benefit of the doubt when they are dominating the opponent. Up until the round 8 knock down, Buster was fighting the perfect fight. There are a lot of factors that come in to play when it comes to the 10 count. Buster was alert and showed he was listening to the refs count. Even if he wasn't, he at the very least put on a good act, which goes a long way. It also happened at the end of this round. Something that can't' be ignored. As for Tyson, took bombs from Buster the entire fight. Looked hurt a couple of times. By the 10th round, it's clear Tyson is ready to go. He takes a flush 4 hit combo. He hits the canvas and instead of getting up and at least trying to pretend he wasn't hurt, he clumsily flips onto his knees to look for his mouthpiece and barely puts the damn thing in his mouth. At the count of 8, dazed and confused, he attempts to get up and falls back down and is clearly shook up. The ref is looking him straight in the eye. Tyson is absolutely gone. Tyson tries again and tries to grab and use the ref to help him get up. The red feels it. This is at 9. As the ref waves his warms and stops the fight, there is zero protest from Mike. Buster would have hurt Tyson real bad if that fight went on. Honestly, think about it. Imagine if the ref called this fight in round 8. Buster would have looked straight into the eyes of the ref like he was crazy. It would be another instance where refs make the wrong call, and this fight would have been remembered as one of the biggest robberies of all time. It would have been analyzed over and over again. Furthermore, it would be an asterisk in Tyson's career and in my opinion would look worse than him straight up losing against Douglas.
@Ffeoli10392 жыл бұрын
@@biggiewhite Also, and this might seem like a silly point, but I think it's worth hearing; Buster Douglas' story here is insanely inspirational. The fact that he was an extreme underdog. The fact that his mother died shortly before this fight. The fact that he told his mother, supposedly in her deathbed, that he was going to beat Tyson for her. He didn't show up that night just to fight. He showed up to win. Not only that, but he used this as motivation to win and fought the fight of his life. The amount of people that were probably inspired by this can't be overlooked.

At 4:00 of the video the referee starts counting, Buster Douglas was down for 12 seconds. It is timed perfectly with the video! Tyson should’ve won this fight in the 8th round!
@akaredcrossbow4 жыл бұрын
Tatarawr it’s timed perfectly with the video. When the ref is on 1 the video is on 4:00-4:01, when he is on 2 the video is on 4:02, when he is on 3 the video is on 4:03, when the ref gets to 8 the video is on 4:10. At some point at the 4 count the referee slowed down the count and has lost 2 seconds from then on. I do understand that it’s the referee’s final count and the count has leeway and other things like distraction come into play. I’m just pointing out the obvious that when the referee stops counting at 9 that 12 actual seconds passed and Tyson should’ve won if the seconds were counted correctly.

I have been binge-watching some Tyson fights and wanted too see a few he lost (the very few). While the fighting is amazing (Mike was still great and just happened to be bested that day), what stands out to me the most about boxing is that there actually is humanity involved. How the ref held Mike when he just missed the 10 count was like, "it's over. great job and you did your best but it's over". The fighters seem to respect each other and this is a competition not a brawl. I think of the training these professionals endure and all the hard work and discipline needed to be the best. I also think of how they must process life's hardships while all of this is going on in the foreground. I can only imagine that you could lose a fight if you had a lot on your mind or were facing emotional issues during the time period. No taking credit away from Douglas and anyone who can withstand being pummeled from Tyson for that many rounds is definitely a champ.

Buster was the first to take advantage of Tyson's limited height: he hit (hard!) from a distance, and clinched when Mike found a way in. Also, after destroying so many rivals in the first few rounds, Mike's long fight endurance was a question mark; Buster proved it wasn't that good. Holyfield used the same long fight approach in their two bouts. After the first, a frustrated Tyson knew he had to KO Evander right away; after three fruitless rounds, he resorted to savagery out of desperation.

I love Mike tyson he's one of the 10 greatest heavyweight boxers in my opinion but on this night his one main weakness got exposed if he went up against a taller fighter who can jab really good then iron mike can be vulnerable most of his losses was against fighters who was taller and had really good Jab punches then mike Tyson will have a hard time avoiding those cuz u can't duck and dodge those jab u can get caught with a uppercut real quick that became Tyson main weakness

I was 10 when this fight happened. I used to watch all the Tyson fights live on HBO. This night my friend from my old neighborhood came to spend the night. So we were out roaming around the neighborhood while my parents watched and taped the fight on VHS. When we came in later after the fight I asked my dad "so what round did Tyson knock him out in?" And he just smiled and said I need to watch the fight. I asked him again and he said watch the fight. I said we will, but I just want to know what round Tyson won in. He just started walking upstairs to go to bed and was like "just watch the fight". Lol. It never occured to me that Douglas could have won. I was so confused why he wouldn't tell me.

@@VaderPopsVicodin10 I remember getting really mad and crying at John Elway when I was 8 or 9. My dad's work had an NFL squares pool and I entered one with him. My strategy of picking which helmet seemed tougher had paid off and by MNF I was tied with some coworker of his. I had the Broncos and they had Seahawks I think and Seahawks won. Elway tried to come back in the 4th and was throwing up prayer passes for incompletions and my dad was laughing because I was yelling at the TV and furious at Elway's stupid toothy face. I think I still hate John Elway.

Even if Mike Tyseon won this one- he was gonna lose eventually. One can clearly see his mind was not into fighting anymore. He was neither quick or agile as he was back when he was on his way to the top. He moved heavy, also always tried to end it with one shot instead of work his opponent. Mike got lazier, more self centered and defocused. He got used to knocking his opponents early that he didnt even have the stamina to go after the 6-7th round. People praise Douglas here but this was not Mike Tyson at his best. It could have been anyone here. Douuglas was a man at the right place at the right time. That is all. This is the truth. Mike Tyson was not himself even 2-3 matches before this one. Neither was Tyseon himself ever after. Tyson's career after this fight was nothing but an attempt to put himself together but Tyson is one of those people which once broken cannot be repaired. His later madness was nothing but an attempt to return back to his old self by sheer force of will. But the magic was gone. Late nights, partying, drugs, private life took their toll and Iron Mike was gone long before this fight.

Tyson plain and simple got an ass kicking this night. If he had pulled it out it would of definitely put him in atg categories. He didn't though, but it gave the blue prints to beat him than evander did and then later Lewis. Tyson took a good beating before eventually going down though in those fights. First taller fighter I ever saw actually be able to use height and reach as an advantage against Mike. The reach and power on his jab punished Mike enough that over the course of the fight he was coming in slower (something I had never seen) and Buster was taking full advantage of the lessened risk of Mike’s uppercut all the way to the end of the fight.

maurice mack you do realize that being at a specific age doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be in your prime, right? I could point out a lot of examples of people who were in their prime that were outside of what would probably be considered “prime” age.
