[Stereo feed] Second song performed on this USTV program, as the credits roll for the end of the show. The lineup partly shifts positions with their respective instruments for this one, but Mr. Watt, originally from The Minutemen, remains the force on bass guitar. Cover of a song by Blue Oyster Cult.

Huge BÖC fan here. Someone recommended checking out this version of "The Red and The Black", and I have got to say, this is fantastic. I love the energy of these guys.

One of the best covers I know of. Better then the oringinal BOC, especially the minutemen version.

I had Mike Watt, George Hurley and Ed Crawford in my house in the late 80’s! I was bootlegging Sonic Youth and fIREHOSE in Glasgow with my Sony Professional Walkman(a bootlegging dream machine in those days!) and during Sonic Youth’s set I was in the middle of the crowd, when I looked to my right and Mike Watt was standing right beside me! Now normally I never spoke to anyone while I was recording a band, but this was Mike Watt…Minutemen’s Mike Watt! So obviously I had to say something to the guy, and started blathering on about how great fIREHOSE’s set was and how much I loved Minutemen etc etc etc, and he listened with a big grin on his face and then asked me if I knew of anywhere him and the rest of fIREHOSE could stay the night? Well, my folks were away on holiday at the time so obviously they were all coming back to my gaff!! I ran upstairs to tell my brother the good news (he was a massive Minutemen fan too!) and at the end of the gig we piled into their van and drove to mine! They were cool as f*ck! I got to play Mike’s bass and Ed Crawford showed me how to play “Corona”! And then they signed all of our Minutemen and fIREHOSE records! It’s a shame we didn’t have a camera, I’d have loved to have got some photos. The next morning I got to hear Mike talking to Ed in our garden about how much D Boon would’ve loved touring around Europe with Sonic Youth! It was surreal… The best thing apart from the memories is the tape I recorded at the gig. You can hear the entire conversation we had in the middle of Sonic Youth’s set!!😁😎 Great days…

To me this really was the spirit of the Minutemen. Love that Mike has carried on with their odd little fondness for BOC. Me too.

Yes... This was at the time Foo Fighters and Hovercraft ( Vedder's side band w/his wife ) were the opening acts on the Mike Watt tour. The Foo Fighters revolved around drums, guitar for Mike Watt's set . Some songs Dave was on drums, Pat on guitar ..and so on . This was before Foo's album was out . I saw the tour in Rhode Island ..paid $8 for tickets. One of best shows I've ever been to still
