Glamping in Mon Jam, Chiang Mai! 🇹🇭 Thailand Travel Vlog

After leaving our home for the last month in Mueng Chiang Mai, we set off to discover the beautiful rolling hills of Mon Jam, also known as Mon Cham, in the Mae Rim district of the Chiang Mai province. Known for its Instagrammable bubble tents and cozy glamping, Mon Jam is a hidden gem among most tourists in Thailand. Join us on a quick road trip as we explore picturesque cafes, waterfalls, and fields of colorful flowers on the way to this quaint little mountain town. Once we arrive, we chase the sunset and end our evening with mu kratha, a traditional Thai-style BBQ that might be our favorite meal in Southeast Asia.

Me, my wife and my friends just went there last year too!! It definitely is a great hidden gem. Not too many tourists. You guys could have go into the town, which is all lively and busy with people. But, if you just wanted to have a chill night, this would have been a great way to spend it too!

Food has all forms. So many styles, so many atmospheres, every situation, you probably can't remember, you can't choose anymore The down-to-earth food, street food, is also available. A variety of restaurants with all levels, down-to-earth prices, probably not necessary anymore, food in the penthouse or in a luxury hotel. The world here is full of choices. and happy too wouldn't be boring wish you happiness

Ashley I would not believe it was your first time trying Moo Krata. You did it right! 😊 Especially when you melted the pork fat chunk first and coated it around before putting sliced pork pieces on the pan. Bravo 🎉 Trick is to keep that pork fat chunk on the top of the pan all or most of the time. The fat will slowly melt and grease the pan and this will avoid proteins sticking on the surface. Also the way you prepped all the veggies for the soup was right and pro level! The egg tofu (yellow soft tofu texture) is for the soup (boiled together with veggies). Love you guys videos 😊❤❤❤

We love Mon Jam. We’d love to be able to return again, but it’s so hot! 🥵 It’s good they saved your phone! That would have been a headache! 😅

I think I will rent a car when I do my 4-8 months slow travel through Thailand (espeically when I am away from the wild traffic of Bangkok). If you have not done so, can you do a video on car rental in Thailand? What are the insurance costs, driver license requirements, etc. TIA.

Yea. We can do our best. We rented a car for this video as well as one more in Chiang Rai. So I don’t know about long term rental. But for us, most cars were about $20-$30 USD/Day, but you usually get a discount when you rent for multiple days. As far as a license, you should have an International Driving Permit from your country. Most places will offer some insurance policy, specially if you rent from one of the bigger companies. Hope this helps!

Maybe for a beginner driver. Are you used to driving on the left or right of a car? The roads are all very smooth, but they are a bit tight and quite curvy, so just take it slow and mind your mirrors as motorbikes will pass you often.

We love it here so much. We don’t have a house unfortunately! We live in housing provided by our jobs in Alaska. It is tough for travel sometimes, but there are visa programs to go and work there. That’s how we’ve met so many wonderful people from Thailand which inspired us to visit! We hope you can come visit sometime!

You could book a Grab, but it may be pricy, depending on your budget. A cheaper option may be to hire a songthaew (red truck). If you hire a songthaew, definitely negotiate before accepting a price. Enjoy your time there! Mon Jam is beautiful, and we had so much fun relaxing and grilling mukratha. 🥰

Honestly not sure as we typically rent bikes or cars. Maybe ~1000 baht per way? That’s about the price to rent a car. But I would see what they suggest and then try to haggle down a little bit if you can.

That’s correct! We ordered satay with roti, and we believe that they misunderstood us. We were excited to try it though, and loved it very much! It quickly became Ashley’s favorite dish! 😊 We try to embrace life’s happy accidents. ✌️
