ROADTRIP to Thailand's HIGHEST Peak! DOI INTHANON + the Two Chedis 🇹🇭 Thailand Vlog

In today's Thailand travel vlog, we set off in our rental car to take a short road trip to Doi Inthanon National Park, home to Thailand's highest peak.
We started the day by checking out of our hotel and stopping at 7-Eleven for Thai milk teas before leaving the bustle of Mueng Chiang Mai. After arriving at the Summit and taking a few pictures at the sign, we continued to the Ang Ka Nature Trail before ending up at the Two Chedis. Finally, we took a few moments at the Watchirithan Waterfall before rushing back to Chiang Mai to check into our new hostel and return the car to the rental agency.
Despite the Summit not being quite what we had expected, we were in awe of the pagodas, nature trails, and waterfalls. We recommend arriving early, giving yourself more time than you think you'll need, and hiring a guide to access otherwise restricted nature trails. Stay overnight to catch the sunset and sunrise if you can!

From the junction road turning right towards Doi Inthanon peak, it is 45 km. It is gentle climbing for the first 5km and gradually steeper and steepest gradient at the 2 Royal Pagadas about 20-25% incline. The highest point is 2565 meters above sea level. There is an annual 48km bike hill climb starting at Wat Prathat in Chomthong nearby around February where about 3 thousand bikers take part. About half number of bikers take their feet down and begin to walk even before the 2 pagadas. The record for fastest hill climb is about 1 hour 55 minutes. The cut-off time is about 8 hours. So whether you are young and old if you can do one-day 100km bike trip on the plain, it is likely you can finish the hilltop within 8 hours even though you might have to walk up to 10 kms! I participated in this hill climb 5 times, the first time when I was 55 taking about 5.05 hours and the last time at 60 years old, taking 6.10 hours. I am now 70 and may do my last climb next month, hoping to finish by 7 hours!

Actually Thai people love to stay overnight at the resort near Doi Intanon area and go to see the sunrise at Doi Intanon. I think you've missed another best trail called " Kew Mae Pan Nature trail". The trail is near the King and the Queen Chedi. It's a short trail about 3 kms. to the hill peak. You can see 3 different type of forest along the trail. We love to go there very early in the morning to see the beautiful sunrise and the sea of mist and the view up there is so stunning.

If you go to Khun Wang in Doi Inthanon , you will see the mountain Sakura or Himalayan cherry blossom trees blooming beautifully during this time. and native maple trees🌸💮🌸💮💐🪷🌺🍁🍁🌲

We like the freedom of renting cars! But we have heard there are many accidents. We felt safe to hire a car in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai province, but would not do so in Bangkok or larger city areas. We’re glad you’ve enjoyed the video and thank you for being concerned for our safety! ☺️🥰

Yes. Yes and I would love to hear you review about accomodations etc. Also , You mentioned that you had to return a car by 6pm. So you didn’t visit a royal project place/park Myself I did Chaing Doa roadtrip and i have done many times. I always stayed one night there at least - never get bored. So I assume that Doi Inthanon trip would be a lot more fun for you ( and your FC ) , if you do 2-3 days trip vlog.

Interesting! Yes, we didn’t plan for more than one day, so we had a car for only 24 hours, we rented it the night before to leave early and try and beat the crowds. So we were pushed for time. Next time we will plan better and stay over night.

I would decide based on weather and heat, so maybe the garden first if you’re there early, then the treks, as they were shaded, then the waterfall? We just did the waterfall last as it was on our way out. 😊

actually siam once comprised of chiangtung, chiangkhong, chiangrung which named LANNA area but sadly french & british took over . therefore chiangtung is now in burma chiangkhong is in laos all of which are located in mountainous foothill of the himalayan ... i miss land which should have been under siam controll cuz these lands speak the same language. laos the whole country + shan state + yakai state belonged to siam... these states would be more civilised if only the french& british did not separate them from the mother land AND OF COURSE YOU WOULD ENJOY THAILAND MORE THAN YOU WOULD NOW.

Hey Paul, we rented from a place called Mr. Mechanic, on the Eastern side of Old town. It was about 900-1200 baht/day depending on the time of year and car you select. It was a good experience overall. The cars were in good shape and the company was flexible. We rented from them multiple times.
