Mike & Ginger React to HENK POORT - The Sound of Silence

Before all these singers were invited to come to the show, Henk didn't know Floor. For Floor though, Henk was her (let's say) teenage idol. She got to know him when she went to see the Dutch version of The Pantom with her parents and sister. Floor is still a bit of a fangirl for Henk. Henk got to know Floor when he was prepairing for the show and was impressed, not only by Floors voice, but also by the music she made, with Nightwish in particular. Henk is a trained opera and musicalstar in the Netherlands and became a fan of Floor. Just for the show and more likely for Floor, Henk trained on singing with distortion. He had 2 hours of training with his vocal coach prior to this show. This was the first time ever he sang with distortion in public. You can imagine how honored Floor must have felt, that her idol did this, just for her. As a result of this show, Floor toured in Januari 2020 with a show in the Netherlands, with Henk as special guest. Of course he sang the Sound of Silence and with Floor, The Phantom. The last and biggest show has been posponed due to Covid. That show would have been recorded. I hope it will still be recorded.

Doing this while sitting down really shows how great a vocalist Henk is even without pitch correction with Auto-Tune or Melodyne.

I love Henk's voice. As Mike said... so smooth and buttery. When you do other songs from this show, be sure to use the versions from jenniezelf's page. She did a great job of translating them. She also has the intros and outros by the singers which adds a lot to the reason they picked the songs. This song was Henk's pick to sing to Floor which was the reason for the harsher vocals. Every time he sings, you can see her almost fangirling over him. Other songs sung to her will introduce you to the other singers as well. Emma sings Floor's song Strong, which will bring you to tears. That song was one of the highlights of the season.

Henk did a super job, just a great tone, and love the way he finished each phrase with that tremolo. His crescendo through out was perfect. Great power as well. One of my fav songs from the 60's. Thx for your reaction M&G as always.

Henk is a hidden jewel and a pleasure to experience. In my opinion, he was motivated by his performances with Floor and Emma to reach higher and perform bigger. This performance is actually due to Floor's impact on the group of people - they all stepped up and out of their comfort zones. Henk had never done distortion before - he was nervous, but of course he did it - everything for Floor. They are great friends today - and I hope that he will be guest star in more than just the Dutch Nightwish coming up shows. He could be used in many of their newer songs....... until a new bassist is found. Henk and Floor did some pretty fine duets in the extra shows - and Henk likes to sing Metal also!!
