I lived down the road from these guys in their early days as a 3 piece band and hung out with them when my brother started a band and got a support slot with them. Used to hear them rehearse in the cellar and got to watch them once down there. Joolz - Justins partner, fed us all too! Also saw Southern Death Cult (The Cult) in the early days as the 2 bands were like rivals back in the day.

One of the most underrated UK bands along with Killing Joke!

The poetic nature of Justin Sullivan's lyrics is one of the key elements that makes this band so special to those of us that are familiar with their work, and long term fans. The verse in this song that really encapsulates that is; "And watching, as a boy alone at the quayside, the ships loading cargo in the night. Their names all calling to faraway places, the years go past, the miles go by, but still this childhood romance will not die" That's Justin's lifelong love of travelling, and particularly an obsession with the sea. Some years back he actually had the opportunity to realise an ambition, and got to sail as a passenger on a container ship across the North Atlantic ! Vagabonds has always been a live favourite, though this isn't one of the best live recordings I've heard, Ed Alleyne-Johnson's wonderful violin playing aside. Ed was only with the band for a few years and played on a couple of their albums. This is another wonderful track that features him quite heavily. They're a band that have constantly evolved though, and are still going strong, and playing music that's impossible to pigeon-hole. Hope you like this song, Purity. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2fac4SGZdCDa8U

I've listened to this band regularly more than 20 years ago. Had to watch your reaction when I saw their name pop up. Thanks and greetings from the Netherlands.

This song is cult and when it was played back in my disco days around 1990 there was a huge party on the dance floor. When someone asks me about my favorite music albums of all times, the corresponding album "Thunder and Consolation" was always on the list and will always be on the list. Songs like "White Coats" (so angry) or "Green and Grey" (so melancholic, And so moody!!!) are milestones for me. "Family Life" is a very pure folk song with just an acoustic guitar. With this album they extended their style with folk rock and Irish folk elements. You should really give the complete album a listen on Spotify! PS: The Mission was such an underrated band. "Grapes of Wrath" or "Butterfly on a wheel" are songs for eternity!

Great song. Another great New Model Army song is White Coats.
@music2seeconcertphotograph4573 жыл бұрын
PS: New Model Army was the first band I shot with an accreditation for a music magazine. I since then saw them several times live and it was always a huge party in the venue. Justin has such a power and energy. And as a lot of their songs have a political background or are dealing with social topics, there are a lot of "angry songs". Seeing and hearing Justin live, you know that he is so much committed to his music and the lyrics.

Been a fan of this lot a long time. In fact 41 and still going strong this year are the band. Would love to see more as I think they have better songs than vags If I’m honest. Thanks for the video and best wishes.

Loved that mix of violin and guitar in the second half. That struck a chord with me. I did enjoy that. Went back a couple of times and it seemed to get better each time. Good one guys 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

1st time hearing this band. The violin made this punk-ish instrumentation & vocals and made this song quite enjoyable. P.S. The name of the song reminded me of this epic music video: MONO INC. feat Eric Fish - A Vagabond's Life (Official Video) kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKbLl6qYirhmhcU It tells a grim story about the fate of a vagabond during the dark years of the black death in Europe. It's also really beautiful & I'm 100% certain that you'll enjoy it a lot should you react to it.

@@MikeandGingernope, I just gave up on your reaction videos because others are better. I delved back because you're one of the few who've reacted to NMA (so credit to you for that). Having said that, unless quite a few people recommend a certain live version, it's common sense to listen to the studio version. 😉
