Just the Excursion now it’s in the climate controlled garage right now. We have made several BANKS POWER upgrades for better performance fuel mileage and longevity. We sure have enjoyed our Excursion. 👍👍👍

We bought our 7.3 2001 excursion from a friend in 2004. It's now 2021 we basically raised our four kids in it it's at 298,000 mi. Just recently finally put new glow plugs in it for the first time. Rebuilt the transmission at around 235,000 miles. It still runs like a clock. Plan on getting a new paint job on it, bought a new grill and new headlamps. I cannot wait. They will never make big old tanks like this again so I will keep it in the family until it dies. But I really don't think it will.

What people also missed when the Ex came out was that it was a 3/4 ton Superduty underneath and could travel the backcountry as well as the pickups. And it has the security of an SUV for your gear in a dust proof place.
@DonziGT2304 жыл бұрын
When you're going to review a vehicle you should familiarize yourself with it first. Access to the third row is super easy if you just do it right, you did the fold down operation which is for extending the cargo space. For the third row access you push the upper lever rearward, the backrest tilts forward and the whole seat slides forward giving good access in one motion. As for the ride quality, the 2WD version rides much nicer.

Great video, thanks for review. Ford Excursion is the best full-size SUV ever made. It has the roomiest interior, the largest cargo space, the best towing capability. Excursion is very reliable and the most durable, longest-lasting SUV. It is so strong, safe and greatest looking vehicle. Why Ford stopped production of this great SUV? By the way, there are several reasons, but these reasons are not right and I will explain why. Reason N1 - Too big size. That is not true, because Excursion is only 2 inches longer, than new Suburban. So they have practically same size, Excursion is little bit larger, like it should be. By the way, every next year big SUVs becoming more and more popular and every next generation of full-size SUVs have larger size. For example, new Suburban is larger, than previous. Reason N2 - Too heavy weight. First of all, it’s not too heavy (it is very comfortable, easy to manage, great to drive and fast enough) and secondly, heavy-duty largest SUV should be more heavy, than ordinary full-size SUV. Reason N3 - Very bad fuel economy. What do you expect from heavy-duty biggest SUV? 20 mpg in city? So go and buy hybrid Explorer. If you need really strong and large SUV with the best towing capability, you should not care too much for fuel economy. Worth noting, that diesel Excursion has same or even better mpg, than most of new big gasoline SUVs have. By the way, if you put in Excursion all new 7.3-liter gasoline engine, with 10-speed transmission, mpg will be way better, than V10 6.8 engine has with only 4-speed gearbox. Even with this old V10 engine, fuel economy of Excursion is not so bad. This can’t stop you, if you really need largest and such a strong SUV. Ford must start production - New Excursion - with: new V8 engines (7.3-liter gasoline, 6.7-liter diesel), new 10-speed automatic transmission and new strong-solid looking design. New Expedition MAX and Suburban are good, but new Excursion will be much strong, way durable and more capable SUV. Price should not be very high and sales will be pretty good. Ford Motor Company anyway should continue production of the biggest SUV. Now the largest SUVs are Suburban, Yukon XL and Escalade ESV. Ford should show everyone who is the King in big SUVs category, with new Excursion - the King of full-size SUVs. Anyway, this old Excursion is still more durable and stronger, than any new full-size SUV.

I know this is an old thread, but I'd like to add to your post. The 'burbans, while fairly long, have also been shortened height wise and width. Drove one recently, and while it was a nice suv, I'll take my BIG E any day. I remember when they first came out...saw a new Exc next to a new 'burban side by side at a red light...and the Exc. completely dwarfed the 'burban (both factory height). Had a 78 Bronco at the time with a mild lift...1 1/2" with 31" tires, and the Exc. dwarfed that too. Finally bought one a year ago. Love it. The V10 gets 14-15mpg hwy, better than my old Bronco with the 351. It would great if they brought it back, but my fear is they'll do the same thing with it as they did with the Explorer, then later the Expedition...make it look wimpy, crossover style, instead of the old truck style that made them desirable to have.

The 7.3 diesel is legendary for long service life. It was originally designed for urban-duty Class 5 trucks and school buses - both very demanding duty cycles. It doesn't take much effort to find a F250/350 with 750,000 miles on it and there a number of million-mile specimens. Unless your are hauling crews around in the oil fields, the SUV will rust out around a perfectly good engine. Many of these are still in service after twenty years.

Longer, taller and heavier than an H1. Of course not as wide but occasionally you want to keep your wheels on your own side of the road...right? I put a 2" lift on mine to help clear cross ditches on decommissioned backroads in British Columbia. The running boards also hang too low and were destroyed early in it's life along with the low hanging steering dampener. Expect to change all the door lock actuators once or twice sometime in it's life. Third seat is a cheap joke for what was a premium truck. Seems to be a reupholstered afterthought from the 1980's Aerostar plant. Very comfortable logging road and off pavement runner and big enough to sleep in.. Just don't get it stuck if you don't have a winch. I love this truck after 20 years owning it from new. I still put it on the road every now and then when Canadian gas prices dip. The last time was to pull a stump out of my neighbours yard.

You've mentioned that GMC Yukons / Chevy Suburbans have "more refined interiors" however, what you've forgotten to mention is that both of these offerings have drum brakes in the rear and are highly inadequate even in the 2500 & 3500 configurations: ask anyone that's tried to tow anything with them, especially going down hill. The Excursion on the other hand is a tow-monster and has large disc brakes all around. Also most of the "features" you mentioned exclusive to the Limited Trim is actually available standard in the XLT; basically the Limited just adds the dvd players and other media gizmos, which I personally don't care for anyway. Overall, a decent review.
@cameron60494 жыл бұрын
Idk what you are talking about for one you can't compare an ex to a standard Yukon or sub but if you compare it to the same years of yukon or sub 2500hds then the gm vehicles have the edge on tech and interior quality as well as being towing beasts with the 6.0 or 8.1 gas v8s no diesel offered sadly but they did have 4 corner disk brakes so in comparison the Ford doesn't have much of an edge capability wise it's all personal preference want to tow heavy you go either diesel on the ex or 8.1 on the GMs
@AB-ol5uz4 жыл бұрын
@@cameron6049 for my purposes, extra storage capacity is key in the Ex, as well as the fact that the 3rd row in the EX lays down, stand up behind the 2nd row or be removed entirely. The Yukon and Tahoe do not have the option - they have to be removed; they are also high theft items.
