U solved the problem using a logical approach but skipped a few steps which had me stumped for a bit. Had to rewatch because the 1st time i kept thinking... "y r u complicatng things.. y skip steps".. so i back tracked a few seconds just to listen first n realized that u helped to understand how to solve it without the complicated process of actually working it or step by step. Thanks a million but.. im probably going to keep working the steps out completely until confident i won't forget any steps later on. Loved these tips!
@RealMikeDobbs5 жыл бұрын
Wow Ashley I love this comment because you demonstrate an essential skill of a good student. You identified someplace you were confused, you went back and rewatched (worked through your resources/problem again), and you were able to understand what was going on. If you keep doing that, you will find that once you really develop your understanding the "steps" will become unnecessary. That's what you want to work towards, because memorizing steps is hard. There will always be more steps and you can only memorize so many things. When you understand, you can figure it out when you need to, and math starts to make much more sense and becomes much easier. Good luck on your journey, and thanks for watching!

thank you for this! due to covid my geometry eoc from over a year ago was canceled, and suddenly they've decided i should take it now... over a year after i've learned all this. much of this isn't used in my day to day life or even in my current math classes, so needless to say i've been a bit frantic. but this video was really clear!! math is much easier for me when it is explained simply and straight up, which is not how most of my teachers taught lol... when teachers over-complicate it or add a lot of flowery wording, i have trouble following as a student with adhd. thats why i appreciated this so much! (typically math/science/etc videos don't help me because i get distracted by pictures in the video or off-topic discussion, which this video didn't have any of) it probably wasn't intended that way but it does make it much easier for me to understand :) i loved how you used the term "building block" because, in my mind, it simplified the more complex formulas for each side which made solving the problems a lot less frustrating. i usually don't comment on educational videos that i use for exam prep/homework help, but i wanted to send my sincere thanks as a student who often struggles with memory. you're awesome!!

what if i have a 30 60 90 triangle but the longer leg is 12 times the square root of 2? & i also have another 30 60 90 triangle with the longer leg as a fraction of 5 over 2??
@RealMikeDobbs4 жыл бұрын
Hey Brianna, the same setup still works but in a situation like that you just need to solve for x algebraically. For for your 30-60-90 example, let x be the side across from the 30 then xrad3 = 12rad2. From there you divide both sides by rad3 and then rationalize the denominator. Same for the other. Sometimes you have to resort to Algebra.

Thanks so much! The unit circle is an important lens to understand special right triangles through, but it isn't necessarily the easiest way to introduce the topic. I'm glad you found the video helpful 😄

would you be able to say that the leg that is always X radical 3 is always a third of its value times radical 3 say the leg is 12 would that make x 4 radical 3

So, I'm always hesitant to try to find a "rule" that you can memorize to solve a problem faster. Every rule you create needs to be recalled perfectly in order to be useful, and memory tends to fade over time, and fail under stress (testing situations). So, it's much better to develop and understanding of the relationships and work through the problem each time. If over time, a pattern becomes clear to you, you can take certainly take advantage of it. It sounds like you may be noticing such a pattern. I'm not sure the way you phrased it is quite correct, it's difficult without a picture. If the side across from the 60 is 12, then the side across from the 30 would be 4rad3. Indeed, it's always true that the side across from the 30 is 1/3(the side across from 60) times rad3. Hope that helps.

How do you know when to multiply by radical 3 or radical 2?
@RealMikeDobbs4 жыл бұрын
Depends on the triangle, you might need to rewatch the video.
