Great production here Mike, amazing serenity, music, and story of a fly fishing wonderland. I enjoyed the footage of the prep work that is required for anglers, hanz fly tying was a fine example. He's got enough materials there to have his own shop, hehe. Just a heads up, I put some money into your PayPal account with a note so you know who it was from. It's just a kind gesture from me to acknowledge the hard work you put in to make these films and the fact you uploaded it to KZbin, I would always put a donation in for your films. I highly recommend anyone else who watches these videos to do so..

Thanks so much for your continued support and generosity Tristan! You know the work and gear costs involved in creating content good enough to turn a few heads. My son emigrated to New Zealand from Scotland just last Wednesday. I miss him terribly already. I’m in my sixties and have an ongoing health problem that means I can’t fly for the foreseeable future. I fished a lot, this year especially, and watching your video gave me a wonderful picture of your country. I’m dreaming of course, but one day maybe I’ll be well enough to visit my laddie, and who knows, maybe catch one of those beautiful brownies and have the joy of the release (my favourite part of fishing). Thanks.

Those big fish taken on a dry fly really tickled my fancy! I'm not saying fishing nymphs is wrong or less skilful than dry-fly, it isn't, just that the visual component really hits the spot with me, whether it be a salmon coming to a hitch fly, a sea trout bow waving after a wake fly across a smooth moonlit glide or a brownie rising to a perfectly presented dry, to my mind, fishing doesn't get much better than that. A film up to your usual high standard Mike, well done!
@mikefsher Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much buddy! Actually all things considered, nymph fishing (particularly sight fished no indicator stuff) is more challenging than most dry fly scenarios. I do agree that seeing that big head elevating and breaking the surface is hard to beat. Cheers

Hi Mike, many thanks for producing a video that tells the reason why I love fishing in New Zealand. As you said, you may not catch fish every time but you get so much spiritual pleasure and peace in just being on the river. The nights are like a dream and some places you come to are like a studio set from Jurassic Park! I have fished the Log Pool on Lake Okataina at night with the mist coming over the water, I was the only human on the water, eyes of the wallabies shining at me in the bush behind me, all I I needed was for a Maori war come out of the mist and I could have been on a film set! Oh, the fishing was really good as well, what a bonus. i travelled the South Island for a year, fishing, hunting and living off the land. What paradise, I am 85 and all I can think of is my next planed weeks fishing next month. Beautiful video, good footage and well told. Cheers mate. Harera

Dear Mike, thank you for this very inspirational video. Among the many excellent videos coming from NZ, this one makes me want to book a flight a get to the South Island. My fishing buddies returning from there repeat your closing remarks in one ore the other form. The however, add one sentence to the very end: "One the 7th day, God made New Zealand". While fishing long leaders appears to be a must in NZ, it doesn't hurt to do the same in my European home waters. In addition, my NZ experienced fishing buddies all give me one and the same advice: start getting experience with these long leaders back home. To have a memorable experience in NZ, do not assume you will be able to learn a specific technique while being there, and don't get confused by all of these loverly videos - the fishing is technical and demands a high level of skill. Therefore, I laid my eyes on a Scott Centric 1004 or a Winston Air 2 964. Now watching your video, I do see that you're fishing a 10 ft Scott Centric. Can you let me know wether this is a #4 or #5. Hans is fishing a Winston Air 2 #4, can you confirm that it is a 9.6 ft? With best regards from the river Isar in upper Bavaria and all the best to you, Hans and Alex
@mikefsher Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your kind remarks. It’s a great place to live, breathe and fish. The Centric I was using was the 905 and Hans was using mostly his 5wt Air 2 - also 9ft. There is a massive difference between those rods though with the Scott being a very fast and quite stiff rod compared to the Winston at the opposite end of the scale being light, medium action and subtle. Since filming this however, we’ve both joined Guideline as brand ambassadors and the Guideline rods sit beautifully in the middle. They are as good as I’ve used and I’ve sold my Scotts. Try them, you’ll love the GL Tactical and NT11 models - amazing

Incredible. Hans "complains" about 4 pound trout. I guess he got used to NZ too much. Where I'm from, 4 pounders are considered trophy fish. Question aside from that: Is it safe for trout to be handled with gloves on? I was taught it messes with their skin which in turn was said to make them susceptible for all kinds of deseases.
@mikefsher Жыл бұрын
Cheers! I’m not sure Hans “complains” about four pound trout at all… on the contrary, he mentions that 8lb or 4lb it’s all the same to him. Yes it’s certainly safe for trout to be handled with wet gloves here in NZ. There is evidence from the US for example where there are many many more trout per km where certain bacteria can infect trout in spots where there has been human contact (gloves or bare hands) but here in NZ we never see those effects due to the clean bacteria free water.
@tomaszsikora8221 Жыл бұрын

Awesome cinematography. If I could just provide one friendly and loving suggestion: please take out the music in the background so we can just hear the natural sounds of nature and the water running in the river. In my opinion, too many videos these days I have music playing while there is fishing and it takes away from the natural ambience of nature. I actually stopped watching the video because I got tired of hearing that background music, artificial noise. Again, you make fantastic videos. I’m just trying to give you some feedback as somebody who watches your videos, and tripping on trout.
@mikefsher Жыл бұрын
Cheers for the kind and well chosen words. If you've seen a lot of my other videos, they are certainly along the lines you mention with the audio recordered included in the production. It then comes down to making some content that is stylistically different, like this. Keeping it fresh and enjoyable to make while taking on the challenge of film production. There are many many anglers who love this movie and the style in which it's delivered. So the bottom line is I make what I like and if folks like it then fantastic. As the the old saying goes, you can please some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time but never all of the people all of the time... Hopefully you find something that resonates with you.

I did not know trout can grow this big. most seatrout in scandinavia is 1/2 the size. must be reaaaly good food chain OR it's all C&R in these areas and tickets must be something like 200$ a day, to keep the pressure down.

They’re big mostly cause of a great water temp range that allows them to feed for long periods
